A woman has told how she was not allowed to board a JetBlue flight because her shorts were too, well, short.

Burlesque performer Maggie McMuffin says she was told she could not board a JetBlue flight from Boston to Seattle.

She had flown from New York to Boston earlier that day wearing the shorts with a sweater and thigh high socks.

Maggie said a gate lead approached her after she had been standing at the gate for around 45 minutes.

Speaking to Kiro7, she said: "Told me that she was really sorry for bringing this up but just what I was wearing was not appropriate and the flight crew had discussed it and the pilot had decided that I needed to put something else on or I would not be allowed to board the flight."

She ended up buying some sleep shorts just so she could get home.

Her friend Molly McIsaac posted a picture on Facebook of what Maggie was wearing.

A JetBlue spokesman told MailOnline Travel the airline had determined the shorts "may offend other families on the flight".

The spokesman added: "While the customer was not denied boarding, the crew members politely asked if she could change. The customer agreed and continued on the flight without interruption.

"We support our crew members' discretion to make these difficult decisions, and we decided to reimburse the customer for the cost of the new shorts and offered a credit for future flight as a good will gesture."
