Five drivers are still in with a chance of taking the title, which means that the closing stages of this year's campaign will be more exciting than in a long time. Even so, Bernie Ecclestone would like to see the system changed, with medals for the first three replacing championship points. Jenson Button: "That would have been perfect for me last year. Then I could have given the last few races a miss and gone off on three months' holiday..."
Even before Adrian Sutil took off through the air in free practice, damaging his car in the process and subsequently being hit with a fine for driving on, he was stuck in a massive queue to get into the paddock - in the strictly regimented state of Singapore, there are airport-style identity and baggage checks. "What's all the fuss for?" asked an irritated Sutil.
