Sure, the annual Cannes Film Festival is filled with tons of fantastic films and incredible after-parties, but we can’t forget about the glamorous outfits that are as memorable as the movies themselves. Each year the who’s-who of the film industry and beyond shows up in the south of Frances dressed to the nines.
If you thought that the only place Cannes-goers get dressed up for is the red carpet, think again. Photocalls, which are allotted times where photographers can snap publicity photos and portraits, are also full of stylish outfits that will blow you away. Ahead, we take a look at some of our favorites from this year so far.
The Weeknd & Lily-Rose Depp
The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp looked every bit cool during the photocall for their upcoming TV series, The Idol. Directed by Sam Levinson, who is also behind Euphoria, The Idol follows the story of a young pop star who gets involved with a charming cult leader after experiencing a nervous breakdown.
Jennie Kim, singer, and rapper of the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, also stars in The Idol alongside The Weeknd and Depp. The Korean pop star and actress decided on a chic black and white dress with a delicate bow detail for the photocall.
Here, actress Michelle Yeoh is pictured wearing a floor-grazing strapless black gown, white opera gloves, and statement jewelry to the Women in Motion photocall. Yeoh was presented with the 2023 Women in Motion Award during the event.
For the Indiana Jones and the Dial of News photocall, actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who stars in the movie as Helena Shaw, decided on a tailored white suit with a matching bralette. She also made a statement with her accessories by donning chic gold rings and a pair of tortoiseshell shades.
Ana Lily Amirpour
Ana Lily Amirpour posed for photographers wearing a ruffled black dress and round oversized black sunglasses.
Jennifer Lawrence showed up to the Bread and Roses photocall wearing a shimmery knit dress designed by Christian Dior. No, this wasn’t the Cannes outfit she famously wore flip-flops with.
To the photocall of The New Boy, Cate Blanchett wore a runway look from Louis Vuitton’s Pre- Fall 2023 collection. The Australian actress plays Sister Eileen, a nun who runs an orphanage, in the film. Blanchett, however, wasn’t initially supposed to be in the movie—the director, Warwick Thronton, had originally written her part as a priest to be played by a male actor but changed his mind. “The character of sister Eileen wasn’t in the script at that time, but Cate coming along actually made it beautiful,” Thornton told Deadline.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also attended the Women in Motion photocall. She was photographed wearing a black Saint Laurent gown and gloves paired with gorgeous Bulgari bracelets and a choker.
Meanwhile, model Anok Yai showed up to the same event wearing a black Balenciaga Danielle dress made from shiny silk taffeta. She styled the eye-catching dress with the design house’s Square Knife Pumps made from black calfskin leather.
Natalie Portman wore a Jackie O-esque look to attend the May December photocall. The outfit, which was designed by Dior and styled by Ryan Hastings, included a red minidress with a thin matching belt, a red blazer the actress draped over her shoulders, strappy satin heels, and black shades.
Actress Brie Larson wowed during the Cannes jury photocall by wearing a Chanel couture bodysuit that featured tons of embroidery and sequins. She wore this one-piece with a thick velvet headband and minimalist black pumps.
Actor Charles Melton looked sleek and sophisticated at the May December photocall wearing a beige pinstripe two-piece Boss suit, a simple white tee, and a pair of low-top sneakers from Travis Scott’s recent collection with Air Jordan.
Actress Marion Cotillard attended The Little Girl Blue’s photocall wearing a head-to-toe Chanel look from the design house’s Resort 2023 collection. The head-turning outfit included a baby pink sweater with a matching halter top, faded jean shorts, white booties, and crystal-embossed sunglasses.
Charlotte Le Bon
Canadian actress and model Charlotte Le Bon decided to wear Miu Miu for the Cannes jury photocall on May 23rd. The look included a sailor-inspired top and sweater, a navy mini skirt, knee-high socks, and brown leather loafers.
Director Baloji arrived at the Augere (Omen) photocall dressed in a striking three-piece set that included a blazer, buttoned vest, and floor-grazing skirt paired with a black hat.
Actress Scarlett Johansson showed up to photocall for the Wes Anderson-directed film, Asteroid City, wearing a colorful striped vintage Prada look.
Actress Maya Hawke also attended the Asteroid City photocall. She opted for a Schiaparelli denim jacket tucked into a pair of high-waisted Schiaparelli jeans, worn with pointy black heels.
