10 Cosmo Editors put the viral comfy shoe brand VIVAIA to the test
If you've been on the internet lately (which you probs have been, considering you found your way here!), you've likely seen ads from VIVAIA – the viral sustainable shoe brand – all over your social media feeds. Initially, we rolled our eyes at the promise of heels that felt as comfortable as trainers (come on, running heels? A nice thought, but unlikely). But after losing count of how many influencers, not to mention celebrities, we spotted sporting the footwear, we caved and decided to try the brand out for ourselves.
Spoiler alert, we're so glad we did because the shoes really are as comfy as they're rumoured to be. *Even* the heels! Sorcery, truly. Comfort aside, what about style points? Because we need our shoes to tick more than one box. Despite our initial concerns that practical shoes and pretty shoes are mutually exclusive, we were pleasantly surprised upon seeing the shoes IRL. From ankle boots to Mary Janes and trend-led loafers, seven Cosmo UK editors personally tested and reviewed some of VIVAIA's most popular styles to determine if they are really worth your coin (you're welcome!).
If you're interested in learning a lil more before you shop, here's a quick rundown on the brand:
What is VIVAIA?
Founded in 2020, direct-to-consumer footwear brand VIVAIA is all about eco-friendly comfort and style. Its shoes are made using knit fabric from recycled plastic bottles, so they're super stretchy (and some styles are even machine-washable or water-repellent!) and comfortably mould to your feet. VIVAIA's sustainability efforts go beyond its recycled and nature-derived materials, the company also uses a low-waste production process while designing its footwear to reduce waste and minimize its environmental footprint.
All while making v chic shoes that have attracted celeb fans like Scarlett Johansson, Julia Roberts, Emma Roberts, Selena Gomez, Joey King, Jenna Ortega and Alexa Chung, among many others.

The viral “running heels”
Everyone from Selena Gomez to Jenna Ortega has been spotted wearing VIVAIA's ‘running heels,’ as they've been dubbed, so you know they've gotta be good. With a cute toe-cap detail and two-tone minimal colour palette, they give major Chanel vibes. Très chic, non? Block heels and a pressure-relief insole combine stability and sophistication in equal measure, lending your look a polished, professional edge that taps into the ladylike aesthetic seen on the SS25 runways.

“To really put these heels through their paces, I wore them for a full day at the office followed by dinner out. Admittedly ambitious, but the padded sole and built-in arch support kept my feet feeling nice and cushioned all day. I wouldn't go as far to say they're as comfy as my favourite fashion trainers, but they're easy to walk in and didn't leave the balls of my feet throbbing like other heels I've worn to the office.” – Alexandria Dale, Fashion Writer
The Mary-Jane flats
Mary Janes have been our go-to shoe for the past few seasons. But not all Mary Janes are made equal... The trick to finding a comfortable pair: getting a pair with 1) enough arch support and 2) an adjustable instep strap. Luckily, these bbs check both boxes, all while looking very, very cute. The square toe adds a modern take on the classic style and, if you're someone with wider feet, you'll appreciate that the Margot is available in extended sizes as well.

Margot Square-Toe Mary-Jane
Editor Review:
“Most of my shoes are either black, brown, or white, so investing in a shoe with a pop of colour is a new move for me and I'm *loving* it. The bright red is such a statement that instantly elevates any outfit. As well as being super lightweight, there's no need to undo the buckle on these Mary Janes – you can simply slip them on and off with zero hassle. Another plus in my eyes. In terms of fit, they were true to size and the built-in padding was great for sole-comfort. However, as with any new pair of shoes, I did feel a bit of rubbing on the back of my heels so maybe throw a couple of plasters in your bag if you're prone to a similar fate when breaking in new footwear.” – Amy May Ellis, SEO Executive
The chunky loafers
The preferred loafer silhouette as of late has featured a chunky platform sole, something VIVAIA's Francesca style nails. While it might be inspired by the classic penny design, there are none of the traditional breaking-in issues to go along with it. Think uncomfy rubbing, inflexible tread and heavy, clunky steps. Loafers that feel like slippers? You have our attention!!

Francesca Round-Toe Platform Chunky Heel Loafers
Editor Review:
“As the self-proclaimed Queen of loafers, I’ve worn, loved, and hated a fair few in my time. Their appeal? The fact that they can go with any outfit. The downside? Breaking them in. Despite being a bit wary of how wearable and, erm, chic, the style would be, I will say I was very intrigued by the comfort factor. And boy, they did not disappoint. You can’t go wrong with a pair of classic black loafers in your wardrobe, and these ones were comfortable from the moment I ran for my morning train, to the minute I got home in the evening. They’re a slightly slimmer silhouette, but surprisingly easy to style, and true to size.” – Jess Bantleman, Social Manager
The mule sandals
Already got a summer calendar full of events? From wedding guests to graduations, your summer wardrobe is calling out for a pair of heels that will last all night long. Enter: VIVAIA's Juliet heel slides. A squishy insole leaves you feeling like you're walking on clouds, while moisture-wicking properties mean there's no risk of your foot slipping forward with every step, leading to painful rubbing when your feet get a little sweaty (we've all been there). And, if you opt for this wearable black hue, they'll even see you to the office and for post-work drinks with friends.

Juliet Square-Toe Block Heel Slide
Editor Review:
“I have a similar pair of mule sandals from another brand offering that same (almost suspicious) mix of style and comfort, so I felt confident I’d like these. The moisture-wicking squidgy insole is SO comfy, as is the knitted fabric upper, which is an on-trend, summery touch even in the black colourway I chose. I'm branding them the perfect holiday shoe – guaranteed to last all day exploring on a city break, or a good go-with-everything shoe for the evenings. The cool square-toe gives it a fashion-forward edge that is safely not ‘orthopaedic’ vibes.” – Sophie Leen, Bookings Director
The pointed-toe ballet flats
Let's be honest, as chic as they look, pointed-toe shoes can be kind of a nightmare for cramped tootsies. But, these VIVAIA ballet flats promise no more squeezed toes thanks to a 5" wider toe box along with plenty of arch support, blister-free heel padding and a shock-absorbing midsole that rivals that of your yoga mat. In fact, the soles are so flexible, you can fold these shoes up to fit in your bag and take with you should you need a comfy back-up. The fact that they're machine washable is def a big plus, too.

Aria 5° Pointed-Toe Ballet Flats

“I’ve always been a flats girlie, opting for laid-back comfort and these cute pumps provide the ultimate in comfy footwear. All while being chic to boot. Don’t be fooled by the pointed toe – they’re nicely cushioned with a shock-absorbing ‘yoga mat’ midsole and come with arch support, and I happily wear mine all day (UK weather permitting!). They also come in over 40 colour options, so there’s a pair to suit every occasion. Literally.”

“I wear heeled boots every single day to work, and I've been looking for something that’s more comfortable than leather without compromising on style. VIVAIA’s square-toe ankle boot fit the brief perfectly. The supportive, cushioned insole and sleek silhouette are ideal for the commute and after-work events. The best part? They are water-repellent, so British weather is no match.” – Kara Kia, E-commerce Editor
The trainers
How many pairs of white trainers is too many pairs of white trainers to own? Asking for a friend, obvs. Well, we're here to tell you the limit does not exist! Meaning, you should definitely think about adding these to your collection. Despite being made with recycled plastic bottles, these sneaks still feel very substantial, and they have the extra benefit of being wide-foot-friendly and water-repellent. That flexible back heel lets you slip 'em on and off without untying them (hallelujah), and you can even throw them in the wash when they need a refresh.

V Prime Unisex Casual Sneakers

“I LOVE a trainer, from chunky dad styles to slim-soled tennis shoes – the works! But, despite trying tonnes over the years, I can say very few are *actually* as comfortable as they initially look. VIVAIA's trainer, however, does not disappoint. It's suitable for most foot widths, especially a wide foot, as it features a roomy toe box. Plus, they feel light on your feet despite many a long weekend tromping through central London. My favourite feature by far though is the tab at the back that makes slipping them on and off a breeze. Shout-out to us lazy girls looking to make the after-work shed even quicker!” – Angel Cordova-Todd, Fashion Assistant
The embroidered slippers
Loafers that feel like slippers? You have my attention!! Featuring a wide toe box, a padded heel patch to prevent uncomfy rubbing, and tons of different embroidery patterns, these slip-ons are ideal for anyone who hates the feel of a heavy, clunky loafer—and yep, like most VIVAIA shoes, they have stretchy knit uppers made from recycled plastic bottles and are totally machine-washable.

Audrey Round-Toe Embroidered Loafers
Editor Review:
“Obviously, leopard is so in right now, and I loveee how subtle these shoes are so I can participate in the trend without looking like I'm cosplaying a Cheetah Girl. My fave part about the shoes is that they're super lightweight, and it takes literally zero minutes to break them in, unlike some of my other flats. Overall a great shoe to wear around the office and commuting, but I could see myself needing more to add an insert in the long run.” – Chaise Sanders, Cosmo US Associate Editor
The slingback heels
Slingbacks are ev-ery-where rn, and these cuties are a great way to hop on the trend. The unique droplet-shaped heel offers tons of support while still looking ~dainty~, and the ventilated uppers will keep your feet from overheating throughout the day. Plus, those thick, adjustable back straps will make these bbs don't slip off your feet with every step (no twisted ankles here!).

Leah Pro Pointed-Toe Slingback Sandals
Editor Review:
“These days, I have switched out my super high heels for shorter styles in the name of comfort. These slingbacks are ventilated so my feet don't get sweaty, and the teardrop shape of the heel is super unique and super sturdy for walking. But my favorite part is the adjustable heel straps. I often have trouble keeping a slingback on without constantly having to readjust, but with these, I never run into that problem.” – Siena Gagliano, Cosmo US Associate Editor
The knee-high boots
Knee-high boots are a real style statement year-round, but it can be tricky to get a good fit. No, we're not talking about in the foot, but in the calf. Those with slimmer legs may find boots are baggy and end up bunching around the ankles while those at the opposite end of the spectrum may struggle to find a pair that zip fully up over their legs. This knitted wool pair aims to solve both problems as they pull on and are super stretchy. Plus, the top can even be rolled down to create a whole new look and a more comfortable fit.

Rebecca Pro Square-Toe Water-Repellent Wool Knee High Boots
Editor Review:
“As someone who no longer wears most heels, I miss the styling power of a really sleek, tall black boot. This wool pair is shockingly comfortable – I’ve dashed across streets in them, carried heavy bags with them on, and spent hours walking through Central Park with a date without complaining about my feet hurting (they didn’t). The upper is stretchy, so they won’t be too suffocating, and the water-repellant wool fabric is cosy without being sweaty.” – Hannah Oh, Cosmo US Shopping Editor
