Zoo Asks for Help Identifying 'Mysterious Winged and Horned Creature' Spotted Near Park Habitat
Trail cameras at the Bristol Zoo Project in England captured footage of an animal that has "baffled" experts, according to the park
The Bristol Zoo Project has a mystery for you.
On Oct. 22, the wildlife conservation park in England posted on Facebook that it wanted help with an animal identification. According to the post, the Bristol Zoo Project's trail cameras recorded "a mysterious winged and horned creature" lurking near the facility's animal habitats.
The identity of the critter has animal experts "a little stumped," per the post, so the Bristol Zoo Project shared a photo of the mystery animal with their Facebook fans for help. In the photo of the creature included in the Facebook post, the animal appears to have at least one horn coming out of its cow-like head and also seems to be donning wings.
"Our conservation team uses camera traps to survey the ancient woodland on our site. Here, you can see a familiar muntjac deer alongside a creature that has us just a little stumped," the park wrote in the post, which also included a photo of a muntjac deer in the daylight so viewers could compare the deer with the mystery animal. Muntjac deer are small species of deer native to Southeast Asia that grow short antlers that resemble horns.

The Bristol Zoo Project added on its website that cameras captured the "baffling" footage of the mystery animal on a night vision camera near the park's Bear Wood habitat, where "bears and wolves live alongside wolverines and lynx."
According to the park, the Bristol Zoological Society's conservation team, which monitors the cameras set up alongside Bear Wood's 7.5 acres of ancient woodland, has seen the footage of the mystery animal and "say the creature appears to have four legs and is like nothing they have spotted before."
The strange creature's appearance occurred right at the beginning of the Bristol Zoo Project's Halloween celebrations, including the zoo's "Howl-oween: Myths and Legends Trail," where visitors will get to see animals up close and maybe spot the mystery animal.

"The sighting of this mythical-like creature is a mystery to us here at Bristol Zoo Project and has been a great inspiration for the Halloween trail this year. Scotland has the Loch Ness monster, and Cornwall has the Beast of Bodmin Moor – have we discovered a similar mythical here in Bristol, perhaps?" Rosie Sims, the public engagement manager at Bristol Zoo Project, said.
