Last night, awards season come to a close as the Oscars took place in Los Angeles, capping off months of red-carpet glamour with some incredible and historic fashion. One look that had people talking was Best Supporting Actress winner Zoe Saldana who chose a burgundy Saint Laurent gown for her big moment, accessorised with a show-stopping necklace, one that took 34 months to create.

The piece in question was part of Cartier's new high jewellery collection and was named the Pantheres Versatiles. Created to look like a panther which wraps around the neck, the design features a speckled vine-like cord of onyx and diamonds and a 10.10-carat Zambian emerald.

The unique piece took 4,827 hours (34 months) to make – and Saldana gave it its red-carpet debut on her own very special night.

"I am honoured to be the first person to wear this transformable piece of high jewellery," Saldana commented. "Its bold creativity and magnetic energy feel like a perfect fit for the Oscars night. The transformation brings a playful and surprising element, adding to the joy of wearing it."

The necklace is more versatile than you may expect – it transforms into a striking piece of shoulder jewellery when paired with a second strand and finished with a twin panther head. It can also be worn wrapped around the wrist to become a bracelet.

The breathtaking piece of jewellery was the perfect finishing touch to Saldana's exquisite Oscars look, which was made up of a tiered satin burgundy gown by Saint Laurent with a sheer bustier and long opera gloves. On the night, the actress took home an award for her performance in Emilia Perez, and – in her speech – emotionally spoke about being a "proud child of immigrant parents".
