The 2025 Golden Globes weren’t the first time Zendaya sparked engagement rumours with her longtime partner, Tom Holland. However, after fans noticed she was wearing a diamond ring on her left ring finger and had debuted a little 't' tattoo on the red carpet, some wondered whether she was making a subtle announcement.

Following the ceremony, TMZ reported that Zendaya really was debuting an engagement ring. Sources close to the couple said that Holland proposed between Christmas and New Year’s 'in one of Zendaya’s family homes in the United States.' The proposal was 'very romantic and intimate' and just between the couple.

The outlet added that the couple has not begun wedding planning yet and given their work schedules, 'it will be a bit before they dip into wedding planning,' TMZ wrote.

Additionally, sources told TMZ that Holland asked Zendaya’s father, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, for his blessing 'months ago.' He gave it, the sources said, noting the family is excited for the couple and loves Holland.

Holland 'waited months to actually propose as he was waiting for the right moment,' TMZ wrote.

Zendaya played coy herself when asked if she was engaged at the Golden Globes by the Los Angeles Times. A recently-engaged reporter at the outlet 'held up her left ring finger and pointed at it' as Zendaya was exiting the Golden Globes ceremony room, the outlet wrote. Zendaya 'responded by flashing her own bling on her left hand, doing a sort of jazz-fingers motion,' the outlet wrote. Zendaya was asked if she was engaged outright. The actor 'kept showing her ring, smiled coyly and shrugged her shoulders mysteriously,' the outlet shared.

Holland and Zendaya were first romantically linked in 2021, but their friendship dates back to 2016. In April, a source told People that they were very serious about their future together.

'There has been talk of marriage, and that is a reality,' the insider said, adding they weren’t about to make any milestones super public. 'They are not the kind of stars who put their lives together out there on social media for the most part,' the source said. 'Both are private. [The attention fame brings them] has never been easy or comfortable for either of them.'

Zendaya spoke to ELLE US in summer 2023 about how she tries to protect certain parts of their relationship. 'Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public,' she said. 'I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.'
