Zendaya Kicks Off the 'Dune: Part Two' Press Tour in a Sculptural Dress Made of Knots

Could Zendaya and her stylist, Law Roach, be any more of a dream team?

To officially kick off the Dune: Part Two press tour, the Euphoria star wore a complex look from Torishéju Dumi, styled by Law, at a promotional event in Mexico City on Monday. The sculptural wrapped piece was custom-made for Zendaya, and was one of the British designer’s first major red carpet moments. Torishéju shared her excitement in an Instagram post, writing: “TO WORK WITH ALL YOU ICONS, JUST SIMPLY WONDERMENT THANK YOU.”

The multicolored design paired well with the ombré step-and-repeat behind Zendaya, as the piece featured layers of fabric in scarlet, navy blue, slate blue, and gray, all tied together to create a stomach-baring sleeveless dress. The skirt featured a high leg slit, through which the Emmy and Golden Globe winner made sure to show off her sleek black Louboutins. A large strip wrapped around her neck and then draped down her back, where a series of stacked pieces of fabric created a capelike train.

We would be remiss not to note how the draped fabric recalls the scarf that Zendaya’s character, Chani, wraps around her head in the first Dune film. The gown also featured the circles of knotted fabric that are signature to Torishéju's designs, derived from the traditional wrap clothing worn in her family’s native Brazilian and Nigerian cultures. We’re sure it didn’t slip any of the team’s notice that these circles evoke the mouths of the iconic sandworms from the blockbuster movie, too.

Zendaya wore a very different but equally futuristic look last week in L.A., when she and Dune: Part Two costars Florence Pugh, Timothée Chalamet, and Austin Butler sat down for an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

For the first installment of director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, Zendaya wore a number of sci-fi-inspired looks that nearly took attention away from the 2021 film, from her skintight sandy Balmain gown to her chained bodice top from Andreas Kronthaler. Oh, and how could we forget that galactic Rick Owens gown from the movie’s premiere? If one thing’s for sure, it’s that Dune: Part Two will be quite the stylish rollout.
