Zara Tindall’s home birth story sounds dramatic to say the least

From Cosmopolitan

We learned yesterday (24 March) that the Queen's granddaughter, Zara Tindall, has welcomed her third child with her husband, retired rugby player Mike Tindall. The couple have had a baby boy named Lucas Philip, in honour of his great grandfather, Prince Philip.

It was reported at the time that Zara gave birth to Lucas in the couple’s Gloucestershire home, and now Mike has shared the details of the dramatic-sounding labour.

Speaking on his podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby which was recorded earlier this week, Mike told his fellow podcasters: "A little baby boy arrived at my house” before saying of the birth: “Arrived very quickly, didn’t make it to hospital, on the bathroom floor.”

If the mere mention of this scenario is bringing you out in cold sweats, you’ll be assured to know help was on hand to ensure everything went smoothly.

"Fortunately, Zara's friend Dolly - she's actually more important than I am at making sure, she's been at all three of my children's births - she was there, and recognised that we wouldn't have got to hospital in time," Mike explained.

"So yeah, it was run to the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, get the mat on the floor, towels down, brace, brace, brace.

“The midwife who was going to meet us at the hospital wasn’t that far away so she drove up, got there just as she was in posish. The second midwife arrived just after the head had arrived,” Mike added.

While this all sounds a little bit stressful, there are upsides to home birthing, according to dad of three, Mike.

“The best thing about being at home was, as soon as he’s wrapped up, skin on skin, straight downstairs, TV room, golf on and I was like, 'This is what me and you are doing.'”

Clearly thrilled to have a son after welcoming two daughters, when asked about plans to have more kids, Mike said: "I literally was like, snip snip. I got my boy, I'm out."

Alrighty then!

The sportsman heaped praise on wife Zara, saying: “She was a warrior, as always, they always are. She was back up on a walk this morning with him.”

And as for big sisters Mia, six, and Lena, two?

Mia was apparently "over the moon, both of them were. The problem is Lena’s like: ‘MY baby!’ And we’re like: ‘No Lena, not your baby’ as she tries to pick him up."

Sounds like it’s all fun and games at the Tindall household. As if this joyous update wasn’t enough royal baby news for one day, Princess Eugenie has shared some new snaps of her newborn son August to mark her 31st birthday. Enjoy!
