For any artists on the lookout for a more bohemian way of living, this eccentric houseboat for sale may just be your match.

Moored at Imperial Wharf, the 25m freehold houseboat is a 1950s Dutch grain barge that has been transformed into a light-filled, maximalist dreamscape, decorated with dramatic metalwork and striking interior design.

Sculpted by French artist Cyril de Commarque and christened 'Wanderland', the houseboat comes from one of his immersive art projects, with an impressive polyhedron mirrored effect on its exterior.

Spanning 1,688 sq ft with ceilings up to 3.69m high, de Commarque designed the luxury boat to be an architectural sculpture on the water: a 'constant kaleidoscope' of light and shadow that reflects and refracts the River Thames beneath it.

With a private and secure mooring at the end of the wharf at Imperial Wharf, the boat is well-placed, close to the shops, cafes, bars and restaurants that line The Boulevard. The train station is nearby, as is Chelsea Harbour's Uber Boat, its Design Centre, and the illustrious Lots Road. Of course, should the owner wish to moor elsewhere, the beauty of onboard living can be realised in its mobility.

Upon boarding, a theatrical entrance leads to an upper mezzanine containing the sitting room, complete with a fairytale floral metal railing that looks down at the level below, and across at the river and panoramic skyline.

At sea level below is the star of the houseboat – its rockstar reception room – crested with leather furniture, ornate chandeliers, Kentia palms and edgy artwork. Centrally, a studded swing seat is suspended by large link chains. The gothic kitchen, with its brass hardware and nautical decor inspired by J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan, is tucked away to the side of the stairwell, which leads up to the engine room.

At the opposite end of this level, the bedroom boasts generous storage for a houseboat and a copper bathtub, as well as a loo and separate shower.

Throughout, the interiors are as opulent and ostentatious as a creative spirit might crave: there's literary references, gothic influences and provocative details.

'Wanderland is a place for dreamers, for creators, for those with an artistic mind. Inside it’s an oasis created to stimulate contemplation and meditation. Outside, you feel the energy of the city, the power of the water and the changing seasons, through the language of the river animals, the ducks, the swans, the geese and the occasional seal,' says sculptor and artist Cyril de Commarque. 'It’s hard to imagine leaving this place because Wanderland and the river, forever captures a piece of your heart that will stay with you forever.'

The houseboat is on the market for £1,500,000 with Luxury Portfolio.
