Our Yorkshire Farm's Reuben Owen addresses life after famous parents' split
Our Yorkshire Farm's Reuben Owen has opened up about how his family has been coping since his parents, Amanda and Clive Owen, decided to part ways. Despite the drama, he shares that the exes remain professional, focusing on the tasks at hand at Ravenseat Farm.
The former couple, who became household names through their hit TV series, announced their separation towards the end of last year, leaving fans stunned. While they've kept quiet about the nitty-gritty of their split, Clive, who is two decades senior to Amanda, hinted at personal regrets.
He has candidly spoken about "behaving badly" and mentioned some less-than-ideal habits involving "ranting, raving and drinking".
Clive, now 69, reflected on the impact of fame on their relationship during a heartfelt chat on ITV's Lorraine last year. He confessed, "We filmed Our Yorkshire Farm, people loved it and it was an opportunity to make something as a family. That was what drove her [Amanda]. It was amazing and very successful, but I handled it very badly. It was such a change in our lives and I sadly made a right mess of things basically.", reports the Mirror.
Clive also candidly reflected on his role in the breakdown of his marriage, admitting: "I had a massive part to play in the relationship ending. I was ranting and raving and drinking and carrying on. I don't know jealousy. It seemed to eat away at me and I handled it badly and I behaved badly towards her. I should have been supportive."
He went on to praise his estranged wife as a "remarkable woman" and acknowledged that they reached a point where they could no longer stay together.
Amanda Owen has previously spoken about the split, maintaining a pragmatic outlook for the sake of their shared responsibilities: "Look, if I was brilliant and I thought he was brilliant, then we wouldn't have separated. But you know what, that's not unique. It's just how things are. But we have nine kids, and we just have to get on with it."
Their son, Reuben is stepping into the spotlight with his own TV show about life as a young farmer. He opened up to MailOnline about his family's reaction to his parents' separation, saying: "Yeah, they spoke about it, but it's not really a big deal between any of us. It's quite simple really. Everyone gets along great. It's not really changed for any of us, if you get me... Everyone makes it work. Beyond that, it's not my business. All I want is for them to be happy. That is all that counts."
Reuben fondly recalled his parents' enduring work ethic, saying: "Mum and dad were both there, working away together, doing something with the cows. That's how it is. Nothing has changed in that regard. They just get on with it. They are both the same really. They get on with whatever jobs need doing. Great role models, really brilliant. Farming away out in the rain and snow. They are really tough, the pair of them."
Exciting times lie ahead for Reuben as he embarks on a new adventure with the upcoming Channel 5 series 'Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales'. The show will chart Reuben's journey as he expands his heavy plant machinery business alongside his partner Sarah and friend Tommy.
Meanwhile, Amanda and Clive will be gracing our screens once more in the spin-off series 'The Farm Next Door', which will showcase their efforts in renovating a nearby property.
Catch the premiere of 'Reuben Owen: Life In The Dales' on Thursday April 25 at 8pm on Channel 5, or stream it on My5.
