Starbucks customers have been taking to social media to express their thoughts about a major change. It appears that, for some coffee fans, their local cafes have changed their cups for iced drinks: The clear plastic vessels have been swapped out for compostable cups and lids.

Tik Tok creator @magdalena shared her reaction to the new cups on social media and wrote, "How am I supposed to see what drink I have?!! That's half the fun!" One commenter replied, "Please tell me this is not real" and another chimed in with, "Are they paper?!?!?! For an iced drink that will have condensation?!" Another person offered, "Girl I feel so much better using paper than plastic."

Starbucks confirmed to Country Living that the change to new cups is happening, but only in select locations. A spokesperson for the company said, "Select U.S. company-operated Starbucks stores are transitioning to commercially compostable hot and cold cups and lids as part of our efforts to reduce waste and meet local market requirements."

The new cups will be found in select stores in 14 states: California, Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota, Arizona, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Michigan, Maryland, Connecticut, Virginia, South Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia.

Customers are reminded that they can bring a "clean, personal reusable cup" from home, or order their drink "for here" to get their beverage in a glass or ceramic mug (with free refills).
