The World Pays Tribute To Stephen Hawking
Tributes from around the world have been pouring in for Stephen Hawking, the renowned British physicist and author of A Brief History of Time who has died at the age of 76.
His family confirmed that he passed away peacefully at his home in Cambridge, where Hawking was a Fellow at Gonville & Caius College for over 50 years. The university said the college flag will fly at half mast today.
"Professor Hawking was a unique individual who will be remembered with warmth and affection not only in Cambridge but all over the world," Professor Stephen Toope, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, said. "His exceptional contributions to scientific knowledge and the popularisation of science and mathematics have left an indelible legacy. His character was an inspiration to millions. He will be much missed."
