If You're A Woman Who Decided Not To Have Children In Response To Trump Winning The Election, We Want To Know Why

It's no secret that another Trump presidency is bad news for women.

The president-elect — who was found liable for sexual abuse — has repeatedly taken credit for the overturn of Roe v. Wade and insists that reproductive rights should be decided by the states. In 2016, he even said that "there has to be some form of punishment" for women who would get abortions if they are prohibited. And JD Vance isn't any better — he previously supported national abortion restrictions but flip-flopped on his position (as he often does) to better align with Trump's during the campaign.

In response to Trump winning the election, women across the country are naturally fearful and angry — so much so that many have declared they will not have kids.

If you're one of these women, we want to know: Why are you choosing not to have children?

Maybe you don't want to risk bringing a daughter into a world where she would have fewer rights than you did growing up. You were already on the fence about having kids, considering school shootings, climate change, the rising cost of living, and so many other issues today. Now that a sexual abuser has been elected president, you know for certain that this is no place for a baby girl.

Perhaps you're lower middle-class, and you were hoping to have kids soon. If Kamala had won, you would have really appreciated the $6,000 tax credit, capping childcare costs at 7% of household income, and $25,000 in downpayment assistance for first-time homebuyers. Now, you're worried about the ripple effects that Trump's proposed tariff increases will have on the cost of goods. You just don't see how you can afford to have kids anymore.

Maybe you already have a child and were hoping to have another. But the abortion laws have become so restrictive in your state that pregnant women have died due to the hoops doctors have to jump through before they can provide lifesaving care. You were desperately hoping a Kamala win would result in the reversal of these laws, but now, you've decided not to risk another pregnancy.

Perhaps you are absolutely livid that so many men voted for the person who's responsible for stripping away reproductive rights, and you're worried about which rights will be next. You've sworn off men — and children — for the moment, and you're focused on organizing and fighting back.
