Woman Secretly Cancels Christmas Gift Her Husband Ordered for Her, Buys What She 'Actually Wants' Instead

An anonymous woman says she secretly cancelled an order for the gift her husband got her for Christmas — instead ordering what she really wanted. Now, she wonders if he'll even notice when she opens the gift on Christmas morning.

In a post on Reddit, the woman writes, "My husband is a terrible gift giver. Like giving me a gift card for my birthday bad."

"I am disappointed most of the time especially on my last birthday," she continues. "My last birthday all of my expectations were dashed. He didn’t even get me a cake. It literally depressed me especially because I was pregnant and I just felt like he didn’t care."

So this year, she decided to ensure he knew exactly what she wanted for Christmas.

"This Christmas I told him exactly what I wanted so I wouldn’t have to be disappointed on Christmas morning," she writes. "I sent him links to birthstone rings of my children and told him exactly what I wanted and didn’t want."

She continues: "Well today I got a notification that he had ordered it and I looked ... It was exactly what I told him I didn’t want… and it was 2 sizes too small. I canceled the order and ordered what I wanted. I feel guilty but justified. Let’s see if he even realizes on Christmas."

Now, the woman wants to know: "Am I terrible for canceling the gift my husband got for me and ordering what I actually want?"

Reddit commenters don't think so.

"If he doesn't notice, then it's his own fault for not paying attention to what you actually wanted," wrote one. "You made sure to be clear with him, and he still messed it up. Hopefully, he learns something from this."

Added another: "But this being a repeating behavior is leaning towards weaponized incompetence. He’s not even trying since you did everything but order it yourself in the first place."

"I don’t even know what possible excuse he could have at this point," the commenter continued. "Like sure not everyone is a great gift giver but people will notice effort if they actually try. He literally just had to follow your directions and pay for it, he couldn’t even do that."
