A woman is hoping to reunite a bride with her wedding dress after finding the formal garment on the side of a highway in Iowa last month.

Denise Gannon told local Des Moines news outlet KCCI 8 that she and her husband were driving along Highway 144, north of Rippey, on June 12 when they spotted a white object in a grassy ditch by the road.

"We had to go get parts one day into Perry … and here was this on the side of the road," Gannon recalled. "All this fluff was just fluffing around in the wind."

The couple stopped to retrieve the dress, which is a size 18W and made by Alfredo Angelo. It features a strapless design with tiers of tulle ruffles.

Over the past month, Gannon has made it her mission to track down the owner of the wedding dress — but so far, she has had no luck. "I really thought that if I put it on Facebook, somebody would notice it and want it," she told KCCI 8. "But nothing."

She initially thought she had a solid lead in her search, as she found the dress next to a garment bag from Bliss Bridal, a wedding shop in nearby Mason City. However, when she called the shop, she was told that they don't carry the Alfredo Angelo brand.

As she's shared her story, Gannon has had lots of different theories suggested to her about the lost dress — including that the bride changed her mind or that the dress was swept up during the tornado that ripped through Greenfield on May 21.

But Gannon isn't quite sold on either of those theories. "I just don't know if somebody was hauling or moving and it blew out of their vehicle," she told KCCI 8.

She said she will donate the dress if she doesn't succeed in finding the owner in the next few weeks.

"Hopefully somebody will just find it and say, 'Hey, that's my dress!' " she said.

In a similar story back in March, an Australian bride-to-be lost her wedding dress after her fiancé accidentally left in on the roof of his car.

Lindel Cain told local outlet 7 News at the time that she and fiancé Tom Mitton had been retrieving some items at their storage unit when Mitton placed a box containing her $2,000 dress on top of his vehicle. She said he had been worried that the box would be damaged or crushed by other items.

When the pair finished up at the storage unit, they drove off — with the dress still on the car's roof. They quickly realized their mistake and backtracked.

“We were pulling into Burnside Village [a local shopping center] when the penny dropped for him, and we quickly turned around and tried to retrace our steps,” Cain told 7 News. “We parked the car and walked along Port Wakefield Road with trucks going 90 kilometers per hour past us, trying to find the box somewhere on the side of the road."

Sadly, they did not manage to find the dress and later put up a $500 reward for anyone who helped them find the lost garment.
