A woman recently went on a date with a vegan and is now questioning her dinner etiquette.

The woman, 32, spoke about the experience on the popular Reddit forum ‘Am I the A------," saying that even though the 35 year old is an “absolutely amazing” guy, things ended up getting awkward on their third date.

On their third date, she said that he brought up that he was vegan and "explained his convictions." Then they got dinner.

“About an hour later, we decided to order. He chose the vegetarian dish on the menu. I went for the burger," she wrote, adding that she "simply ordered what I felt like eating at that moment."

However, her decision rubbed her date the wrong way.

“A few days later, we talked again over text, and he called me out on it,” she wrote. “For him, it was a real lack of tact on my part and pretty disrespectful of his convictions, which he had shared just an hour before we ordered.”

“Now I’m feeling a bit confused about the situation," she wrote. "I like him, but I don’t really see where the disrespect lies in my actions."

In an update, she went on to clarify that her date never asked her to become vegetarian or vegan and actually paid for the meal that night.

When she asked her fellow Redditors for their take on the situation, the majority of commenters came to her defense.

“If he didn't want you to eat meat in front of him, he should have said so,” wrote one commenter, who just so happened to be vegan.

Meanwhile others said that what happened seemed like a potential reg flag.

“It’s controlling for him to demand you change your eating patterns to suit his convictions," read another reply. "I don't see the ‘absolutely amazing’ part - that's basically the opposite of a controlling/narcissistic personality.”

Yet another commenter shared that while her date's personal beliefs are “valid,” he was still in the wrong in this specific situation — and perhaps would be better off exclusively dating fellow vegans.

“Some vegans are 100% OK with friends/partners eating meat in front of them. Others are not, because it's too upsetting, off-putting, nauseating, etc. Both are valid ways to feel,” they wrote. “It makes little sense to date an omnivore and expect them to change their diet when they're around you."
