A woman took her frustrations online after saying she got into an argument with her younger brother about his future months after he dropped out of college and moved in with her.

In a recent Reddit “Am I the A------?" post, a 22-year-old woman said she'd been having some issues with her brother, 18, after he dropped out of college with no plans for the future.

“He spends all day gaming and scrolling through social media while I’m busting my a— at work," the woman wrote. "I come home to a messy apartment and him still in his pajamas."

Despite talking to her brother about getting a job, helping out around the house or possibly going back to school, she said he told her he’s “taking a break” or “figuring things out.”

The Redditor said she finally “lost it” after coming home from a long day of work to “find the sink overflowing with dirty dishes, trash everywhere, and him yelling at his game because he lost a match."

"I asked if he could at least help keep the place clean, and he snapped that it’s 'not a big deal,' " she wrote.

In response, she says she told her brother that “he’s wasting his life, that time’s flying by, and he’s gonna regret it if he doesn’t start doing something now."

From there, things escalated between the sister-brother duo, with the teen telling his sister that she was “being harsh and don’t understand what he’s going through.”

The woman then went on Reddit to ask if she had been in the wrong, but the overwhelming majority if commenters took her side.

“You need to give him a time limit on getting a job, and a rule about house cleaning. If he is not working after 30 days, or does not clean up after himself daily he will receive an eviction notice,” read one comment, while another suggested that she threaten to change the wifi password unless he can find a new job.

Meanwhile, other replies advised the woman to be firm with her brother so that he would have a chance to really learn from the situation.

“Don't just yell at him: give him a deadline. If he doesn't at least get a job and contribute to the rent in one month plus keep the place kept, you'll kick him out. Then do so," read one reply. "Some people only learn when you lay down the law. If you just get angry but do nothing else he'll be the mooch freeloading off of you who argues back whenever you get angry."

In an update, the woman said that after talking to her brother following their initial argument, he told her he was “frustrated” with the situation “because he feels like he’s not able to accomplish anything, and it’s really affected his self esteem, which is why he’s always staying inside.”

The woman went on to say that after breaking down how much time he was wasting, her brother was “shocked” and now “seems like he does want to change for the better but has been feeling overwhelmed lately.”

She added, "Thanks for the genuine comments offering suggestions."
