A woman was charged with murder after police say she shot and killed her mother in Houston on March 21.

D’Juana Valien-Nwaokocha, 58, was arrested Wednesday, a week after her mother, Samaria Bellows, 81, was found dead with a gunshot wound, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a post on X (formerly Twitter.)

ABC 13 reported that Bellows’ body was found in an apartment at a senior living complex, citing police. The outlet also reported that police checked the apartment after family members said they hadn’t heard from Bellows.

Police have not said what a potential motive for the shooting could have been.
