Why Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes Are Raising Their Daughters Away From Hollywood
"Eva and Ryan love their life."
Ryan Gosling may be a superstar who stole the show at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday with his now-viral "I'm Just Ken" performance, but he and his wife Eva Mendes just want a normal life for both themselves and their two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada. On Monday, a source told People that the couple actually moved their children out of Los Angeles to escape all of the Hollywood pomp and circumstance.
"For them, the most important job is their girls. Everything else comes second," the insider said. "And their girls are thriving. They left L.A. to live a bit further north, away from Hollywood. They didn't want the girls to grow up around other celebrity kids."
"Eva and Ryan love their life," they continued. "It's admirable how they've been able to create balance and boundaries. They care so much about their marriage and just want their girls to live a happy life."

The couple is notoriously private and doesn't attend many events or red carpets together. They've even kept their marriage under wraps for some time, so it makes total sense that Mendes skipped Sunday's ceremony. After Gosling slayed the house down with the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes-inspired performance, Mendes took to Instagram to share her pride — and then tell her husband to hurry home.
"You took Ken all the way to the Oscars, RG," she wrote alongside an image of her sporting Gosling's bedazzled pink jacket, shades, and black cowboy hat from his performance. "Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed. 💋"
Although Mendes did not attend Hollywood's biggest night, she shared a video outside of his dressing room earlier in the day with the caption, "Always by my man."
