As many an experienced wedding-goer will know, white - as well as a low-cut dress, veil and tuxedo - is pretty much a 'no-no' when it comes to guest attire.

But, if recent royal tradition is to be upheld, it sounds like Meghan Markle will be eschewing a white wedding dress on her big day, like Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II before her.

Despite dress sketches from Israeli designer Inbal Dror already being leaked to TMZ, it's widely believed the 36-year-old will wear a off-white shade for her nuptials, potentially opting for the classic hues of ivory, cream, oyster, and champagne.

The choice of a non-white dress would be in keeping with royal tradition.

For her wedding in 1947, the Queen opted for ivory silk, decorated with crystals and 10,000 seed pearls.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton wore a melange of off-white hues - including an ivory satin bodice and satin gazar skirt - for her nuptials to Prince William in 2011.

The choice of a non-white dress will differ from Markle's first wedding to Trevor Engelson in 2011.

In photos from the wedding, the former actress appeared to wear a strapless white gown, with a V-shaped cut out and embellished belt around the empire line.

The former Suits star accessorised her look with a simple gold bracelet and necklace while her iconic brown locks cascaded down one shoulder.

While it's yet to be revealed the exact style of wedding gown Prince Harry's fiancée will choose for the royal wedding, the philanthropist has already opened up about her preferences when it comes to bridal wear.

'I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic, she admitted, according to People, when discussing her Suits character Rachel Zane's wedding dress in the series.

When previously asked about her favourite bridal brands, Markle once told Glamour that she loves Paris-based designer Delphine Manivet and newcomer Christos Costarellos, given 'their uniqueness and beauty'.

She also added that she'd 'always be a fan of couturier Elie Saab and J.Mendel is spectacular as well'.

Queen Victoria is widely known as starting the tradition of white bridal gowns from her marriage to Prince Albert in 1940. Howeve, Mary Queen of Scots was the first British royal to wear a white wedding gown in 1559 when she married her first husband, Francis Dauphin of France.

With rumours Markle is breaking tradition and planning to make a speech at her wedding, we couldn't support this 'rebellious' choice of wedding dress colour more.
