Why Harry and Meghan were turned down from a Canadian restaurant

  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently spending the festive period in Canada.

  • But when their security team reached out to a local restaurant for a reservation, the royals were turned down.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently making the most of some private family time in Canada.

The couple, who decided to miss out on Christmas festivities at Sandringham, have spent their break away from the UK jogging and hiking together.

And while some locals are more than happy to accommodate for Harry and Meghan, one resident turned down their request to eat at his restaurant because of the hassle of the security that comes with hosting the royal family.

Deep Cove Chalet, a seafood restaurant owned by Bev and Pierrer Koffel in North Saanich, Vancouver Island, was scouted by Meghan and Harry’s security team for a potential dining spot.

However, Bev told the Vancouver Sun that when her husband was asked to book the couple in for a reservation, he turned them away due to the tight security involved.

The restaurant owner is hoping the couple will call again, adding: “Let them have their peace and quiet. For us to be so lucky to have them in the area, how lucky is that? I wish them all the privacy they can possibly get. They deserve it.

“Horth Hill’s become a very popular place now. And they jog around, so they’ve been seen. It’s kind of exciting. I hope everything goes fine for them. They’re breaking away from tradition and I just wish them all the best.”

The couple decided to spend Christmas away from the royals in favour of some "private family time in Canada."

They were thought to be heading to Los Angeles to spend it with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, but when revealing that they would instead be in Canada for Christmas the statement from the palace referenced the pair's time there over the years, "The Duke of Sussex has been a frequent visitor to Canada over many years, and it was also home to The Duchess for seven years before she became a member of the Royal Family. They are enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people and the beauty of the landscape with their young son."

We're certain Harry and Meghan didn't go hungry.
