Where The Traitors contestants really sleep – astonishing accommodation that's not the castle
The Traitors fans have been left shocked to discover that the contestants don't actually sleep in the stunning Scottish castle where the show is filmed. Fans of the popular BBC show - which is back with a third series on 1 January - watch as contestants try to figure out who's been 'killed' while enjoying a posh breakfast in the historic Highlands mansion.
But instead of staying at the 19th-century Ardross Castle, after a long day of filming, they actually stay at the £70-a-night Courtyard by Marriott. The hotel is a 40-minute drive away and is next to Inverness Airport.
This surprising fact was revealed by film star Alan Cumming, who hosts the US version of the show filmed at the same location. He also gave a hint as to where host Claudia Winkleman stays during filming.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, Alan said: "They all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport. How glamorous you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel. I stayed in a little house in Inverness. But I had a room in the castle where I would get made up and dressed. It had a huge bed in it. So I did actually sleep quite often, but not overnight."
Fans were left stunned by this revelation. One took to X and said: "OMG! I always imagined they all stayed in individual little cottages on the castle estate somewhere this is way less romantic than I thought."
Another person wrote: "Ha! I was wondering where nearby would have a big enough hotel to keep them all apart and this makes total sense," while a third said: "Omg, I always imagined they all stayed in individual little cottages on the castle estate somewhere- this is way less romantic than I thought."
The four-star hotel, which opened in 2020, has an average online rating of 4.3 out of five. Its website states: "At the centre of it all is our Kitchen & Bar serving you from early morning breakfast through to delicious evening meals, it's the perfect place to relax and refuel."
It's reported that former guests have seen security guards patrolling the area to prevent contestants from colluding during filming. One person seemingly confirmed this theory, as they wrote on X: "I was staying here back in May 2022, no idea if it was for Traitors season one, but they had guards on each corridor by all the lifts checking on people leaving their rooms. They said it was for the filming of a reality show, but refused to tell me which one. Lovely hotel to be fair!"
