A GENERAL CARD FOR EVERYONE: EIGHT OF SWORDS

Incoming Pisces season brings a lovely element of playfulness, whimsy, and imaginative fantasy to our realm. Slip beyond the boundaries of ordinary reality and let your inner child out to have fun, explore, and create. The Eight of Swords asks you to turn away from what others think you should be like or, more likely, what you think you should be like based on projections or comparisons to others. Stop judging your flaws with others’ highlight reels. Stop externalizing your internal doubts or fears as other people’s opinions of you. Look within. Get comfortable with you as you are and make friends with yourself. It’s time to play and have fun and be childlike in the best possible way.

ARIES: SIX OF SWORDS

This is a week of release, letting go, moving on, drawing a line in the sand, and leaving behind dead wood, dead weight, and old news. You are ready for a change of scene, a fresh outlook, new faces, and different activities. You are moving towards renewal and rebirth and the first step, which unfolds this week, is releasing and shedding old stuff that no longer suits you or makes you feel content, inspired, or comforted. Let it all go. A total declutter.

TAURUS: THE EMPEROR

Control is a major theme for all Taureans. You just don’t like other people to have an inside track on what you do, when you do it, or how it gets done! The Emperor has you in full control mode this week and maybe it’s necessary because sometimes you just have to push your own agenda and do things how you see fit. However, remember that winning arguments actually only leads to losing relationships. Don’t push your opinions or actions onto other people. Do what you need to do and remember that everyone else has the same right. Be in control but not controlling.

GEMINI: TEN OF PENTACLES

What’s the long-term plan here, Gem? Where’s it all heading? What are you working towards or building here? Ask yourself these questions because they might well lead you to a new revelation about your priorities and focus in the immediate hour. Don’t waste your efforts on things which aren’t going to be sustainable or bring rewards for months and years to come. Don’t give up long-term opportunities for short term gains. Think strategically, especially in your health, wealth, and work realms. What matters in the long run? Make that your goal.

CANCER: THE HIGH PRIESTESS

If ever a tarot card represented a classic Cancerian mood then it’s The High Priestess. Passive, knowing, internally focused, psychic, wise, but set to "thermostat" mode (i.e. you’re not taking on influences, opinions, or inputs—instead you’ve set your own dial and settings and that’s that). You are a stubborn person and resistant to change sometimes. The High Priestess knows how to work around this because she implants the ideas and guidance you need inside your psyche, where they can unfurl and grow secretly and consistently until you’re ready to receive them. This week, new insights and possibilities will arise in your imagination and you’ll pay attention. This is her good work!

LEO: KING OF SWORDS

Look out for an older, masculine energy in your realm who is super smart, shrewd, and worldly. They could be an Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius). This person has your respect and will also earn your affection this week because they will ask you questions that stimulate new ideas and options about your future steps, maybe in career, or purpose, or self-development. Their curiosity about you triggers a new perspective on your progress. You realize you could do things very differently and this is inspiring. Enjoy these discussions, be honest, and open-minded. This is a step change moment.

VIRGO: SEVEN OF SWORDS

Caution is the name of the game this week, Virgo, with the tricky Seven of Swords. Someone is not playing entirely fair, true, or straight with you. It’s likely you have an inkling, a gut feeling, that something is off. Trust your intuition. Don’t be vulnerable around this person or let them any further into your affairs without observing them for a while first and testing their intentions by seeing if their actions align with their smooth, flattering words. You’re nobody’s fool. You know how to protect your own interests. Do so now.

LIBRA: KNIGHT OF CUPS

Valentine's Day and Pisces season is always a good time for Librans, because you’re ruled by Venus the goddess of love herself. You are flirtatious, social, charming, and love to live the good life. Treating and indulging yourself is one of your favorite pastimes, so why not date yourself, quite literally. If you’re open to new love then look out for a charismatic Water sign (Pisces, Scorpio, Cancer) who has the potential to sweep you off your feet! Let romance in your life in whatever way pleases you this week.

SCORPIO: NINE OF SWORDS

Don’t worry, don’t fret, don’t overthink this thing you’re dreading or feeling secret anxiety about. Worrying is not a solution. Action is a solution. And action cancels out fear. So, start taking steps towards tackling this dreaded event or possible outcome. Better still, talk it all through out loud first. The Nine of Swords reminds us that most fear is imaginary, based on things that will never happen. Separate fact from fiction by telling someone trusted what you’re worried about. The imaginary parts will all evaporate and you can then tackle what remains.

SAGITTARIUS: EIGHT OF PENTACLES

You do have a tendency to start things and not finish them because it got boring or something better came along. There may well be a temptation to repeat this pattern in the week ahead, but please refrain. Don’t give up on what you’re working on right now, even if it feels draining or difficult. You are max two steps away from a major breakthrough that will make it all flow much easier and swifter and remind you that the rewards here are still visible, available, and worthwhile. The Eight of Pentacles says don’t give up.

CAPRICORN: THE LOVERS

the lovers tarot card
Margie Rischiotto+Rider-Waite

The Lovers is a trickster card, I feel, which represents Gemini and therefore all of that mutable, hard-to-pin-down energy. You might feel in two minds about something and kinda churned up emotionally over what to do. A head versus heart decision, a temptation, a distraction from a priority that you can’t work out if it’s a good or bad thing. Let the dust settle. Don’t overthink. Clarity is the goal. Let your mind relax and work on other things, let your subconscious have space and time to chew this over, and be open to receiving whatever emerges from your intuition as the right answer. Clarity is coming, don’t do anything until it has.

AQUARIUS: QUEEN OF SWORDS

This queen rules over the Air element so you feel very at home with her company. She visits us when we need a tinge of ruthless focus and energy. Perhaps you’ve let others have a negative impact on your space or take over the agenda. Perhaps you’ve not thought through the full consequences of your current steps, or perhaps you’re being kind rather than sensible. Look again at what’s in front of you with a self-interested gaze. What have you missed? Time to rectify that. Time to do what’s best for you.

PISCES: JUDGEMENT

judgement
Margie Rischiotto+Rider-Waite

Judgement is about clear-eyed self-awareness and appreciation. The ability to know your true strengths, skills, and abilities, and how to use them to add value in your life and serve a true purpose. Judgment can take many years to unfold—we all worry what others think of us, or project our flaws too loudly, or miss the gems that others see so clearly in our spirit. Look carefully at yourself, ask for feedback, take the week to get a true grip of what makes you YOU. Know yourself and you will know your opportunity.
