You Need To Be Watching ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3
IT'S BEEN A little over two years since we last took a visit to a White Lotus resort. And while that's just about par for the course in the modern television landscape, you only really begin to realise just how much you've been missing writer/director Mike White's razor sharp world and characters once you're back in. And boy oh boy does The White Lotus pull you back in with season 3.
Set at a luxury resort in Thailand, The White Lotus's third go-around follows four different guest groups at what should be a location for pure, utter relaxation; of course, things do not go according to plan, much to the delight of those of us watching at home.
While The White Lotus's tropical locale (and perfect musical score) makes it nice to watch and experience, what always makes this show hum is the perfectly-crafted characters. Just from watching the very first episode of season 3, you can tell that we're going to be following these people as they get involved in some surely-escalating madness.
Our groups are as follows: The Ratliff family, made up of parents (Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey) and three very different siblings (Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Sam Nivola); three women on a girls' trip (Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, and Carrie Coon); a couple with a substantial age difference (Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood); and Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), visiting from her role at The White Lotus's Hawaii location (and returning from season 1).
As with each season of Lotus, these are characters who just in and of themselves are entertaining to watch and make viewers want to talk about and analyse for hours. Some of them are flawed, borderline bad people, and all we want to do is speculate on where their stories are going to go, and what they're going to do. White has a talent for creating the kinds of personalities that people watching at home recognise, and have no choice but to keep watching to see where things go.
And so we all will. The White Lotus will have eight episodes in season 3—its longest season yet!—and we're excited for every minute of it.
