It turns out that Daisy Edgar-Jones and Dakota Johnson's kinship may well have predated their side-by-side Gucci girl status this weekend at the label's SS25 show in Milan.

In a newly-resurfaced video interview, the Normal People actor can be seen answering the question of 'Have you ever been mistaken for another celebrity?' with a surprisingly knowing answer.

'I haven't in real life although I hear a lot of people say I'm the lovechild of Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway, which I'll take,' Edgar-Jones said. 'I don't know if that's just because we all have brown hair and I have the fringe that's quite Dakota-y.'

At the time, Edgar-Jones was promoting her 2022 Hulu film Fresh, which she starred in with Sebastian Stan. In the video, the actor said that she hadn't had any bad first dates – she referred to the ones she'd had as 'pleasant' – and that her biggest ick was indoor scarves (yes, really). 'I don't mean to be mean about indoor scarves but I have a little hang-up about those I'd say,' she added.

The horror genre of the film attracted her to the project after the viral sensation of the Sally Rooney adaptation put her name firmly on the map. 'I think sometimes when you're working on a film that has darker themes, you weirdly as a crew and cast unite and sort of get the hysterical giggles all the time,' she said, before adding that the film was 'so much fun' to make.'

Edgar-Jones' career is going from strength to strength. The London-born actor is set to star in a new adaptation of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at London’s Almeida theatre, which will run from December to February 2025, which follows hot on the heels of her appearances at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her 1950s drama On Swift Horses.
