Washing machine hack uses common household item to get drums 'sparkling' in 10 minutes
YouTuber and mum Sophie Elizabeth has shared a little-known hack for cleaning your washing machine, using just standard dishwashing liquid and minimal effort.
Sophie regularly posts cleaning, budgeting and organisational videos on YouTube. One video titled "Clean your washing machine in 10 minutes with just Fairy Liquid! (simple and effective)" has caught people's attention, as they are astonished by the results.
"[My washing machine is] starting to give a bit of funky smell, I'm not going to lie," she explains on camera. She then pulls out a bottle of the popular washing up liquid before adding, "this isn't the only product I'm going to be using - I'm going to use a Pink Stuff scrubber if we need to get in any hard-to-reach areas. And I'm also going to get a cloth out."

She begins by taking out the filter out of the bottom of the washing machines, before cleaning the inside with just a scrubber and fairy liquid. However, she warns viewers to watch out for any water that may come out of the filter, reports the Mirror.
She says: "As you can see it's absolutely filthy in there. This Pink Stuff scrubber is like an electric tooth brush - it's amazing. The end results were great with so much gunk coming out."
Then she begins to clean the filter plug and dispenser tray in her kitchen sink with the scrubber and fairy liquid.
She added: "This has been long overdue guys. Like I said it was starting to smell pretty disgusting and it needed doing. I'm very happy with the end results."
After this Sophie wipes the front of the washing machine with a damp cloth and little bit of fairy liquid.
"I'm just scrubbing the outside to begin with and then into the drum. There were were a few bits of mould [on the rim] but I managed to get it up without any mould cleaner and just Fairy Liquid."
She then tackles the "absolutely grim" draw dispenser hold, which comes out gleaming after a deep clean with the scrubber.
Lastly, she finishes off by wiping away any bubbles and drying off the machine with a clean dish towel, before putting the machine back together - with the filter plug and dispenser tray.
She says: "The washing machine is done and I've popped the cloths in on a 90 degree wash. It's now looking so much fresher."
