Here at Allrecipes, we’re big fans of Walmart’s Great Value (GV) brand, not only for the thin-cut French fried potatoes that taste like McDonald's but also for the oodles of frozen meals that make dinner a cinch.

Reddit seems to be quite fond of Walmart’s generic brand, too, with many saying they use them all because they are “cheaper” and “can't tell [the] difference.” Others have said, “Honestly, most GV stuff I’ve tried is comparable if not better than the name brands.”

But what are some of the best Great Value products on the market? We went to Reddit to find out.

Reddit’s Favorite Great Value Products

A Reddit thread asked the online community if there were any Great Value products they enjoyed, and there are many.

Chips and Cookies

One commenter said that the “GV chips are pretty great,” they even prefer some of the flavors over the name brands. Pick up its name-brand chips and cookies the next time you're at Walmart. Reddit says they won’t disappoint. “The knock-off Oreos” will give you more than the name brand “for like $2,” while the “Walmart brand peanut butter cookies” can easily be comparable to the real Nutter Butters but for less.

Frozen Pizza (and Other Meals)

The same chip fan added that the “GV/Sam's frozen pizzas are my go-to when I want pizza” and that the “Sam's Choice stuffed crust chicken bacon ranch is probably the best frozen pizza I've ever had.” Other go-to frozen Great Value items include “lasagna and pasta Primavera and pot roast,” says one commenter, while another said "frozen French fries, especially deli wedges," are a must.

Ice Cream and Milk

Great Value ice cream is a winner in this community—especially “cookies and cream and salted caramel”—as “it's literally 1/6 the price” of the bigger-named brands.

Speaking of dairy, another big contender is milk. One commenter said, “I get the GV fat-free milk, and it doesn't taste any different than the major brands.” Someone else added that this is the store brand they trust most with their milk: “I don’t trust most store brand milk because, for some reason, half the time, it tastes nasty. But Great Value milk has yet to let me down.”
