Walmart's "Beautiful" Armchair Looks Like a West Elm Version That’s 4x the Price
We actively seek out affordable furniture to put on your radar here at AT, though merely coming across a stylish piece for a low cost is not enough. In such cases, you usually have to ask yourself, “What’s the catch?” Will the budget-friendly floor mirror distort your reflection? Will that under-$150 dining table prove impossible to assemble? How does this fiberboard cabinet have so many glowing reviews?
After a few minutes of browsing, you learn to be cautious rather than overly optimistic. But when we came across the Waylen Swivel Chair from Better Homes & Gardens’ Dave & Jenny Marrs collection at Walmart, we were pretty much only optimistic. Not only does it retail for just $198, but its modern design and low-maintenance construction appear to actually live up to expectations. It also doesn’t hurt that the Waylen chair bears a striking resemblance to a popular West Elm accent piece, which retails for at least $600 more.

What Is the Better Homes & Gardens Waylen Slipcover Swivel Chair?
The Waylen chair strikes a perfect balance between modern and traditional design, proving at once cozy and refined. Clean lines and woven ivory upholstery allow the chair to work with just about any aesthetic, while a swivel base and slipcover give it that homey sensibility that’ll make it the star of your favorite reading corner. What’s more, the Waylen measures just 31.5 inches tall and 31.5 inches wide, so it’s perfect for small spaces.
In addition to placing it in the living room, Walmart reviewers say it’s also a great pick for the bedroom, a child’s room, or the home office. But, of course, the main thing that drew us to the Waylen chair is that it looks almost identical to West Elm’s Harris chair. Shoppers note that this accessible chair has sold out before, so if you like it, you’ll want to grab it fast. If anything, you’ll want to grab two!

As one of West Elm’s best-selling collections, the Harris line is known for simple but crowd-pleasing living room seating. It’s incredibly comfortable thanks to a kiln-dried wooden frame and supportive spring seat cushion. The Harris swivel chair is also versatile because it’s available in a variety of fabrics. Although some Walmart shoppers note that the Waylen chair’s cushions could be a little more supportive, they still largely agree that it’s good for the value and that this problem is easily solved with the addition of an accent pillow.
What Walmart Reviewers Are Saying
Average Rating: 4.4/5
“Great chair, especially for an apartment, small office, or dorm room! It has slipcovers for easy cleaning. Big bonus! The ivory color goes with almost everything!” — Misty
“This chair is really good for the price. It’s super quick and easy to put together. The fabric is soft, and I love that it’s a slipcover so we can wash it easily. My kids have put the swivel to the test, and it’s great. The only thing is the back cushion is thin, which I knew based on other reviews, and it would not deter me from buying it again. Just add a throw pillow for a little more support, and you’re good to go.” — Jen
“Love this chair!! Comfortable design and soft fabric. Swivel feature works great. But the best part is the removable, washable slipcover! Thanks to my toddler, I’ve already had to wash it, and it came out perfect. Looks brand-new, and no issues with shrinking.” — Karen
Even if you’ve struggled with putting together furniture in the past, you should have no problem with the Waylen chair’s easy assembly. And, when you’re finished, you’ll have a piece that gives your home major West Elm vibes for a shockingly low price (not that anyone would ever guess).
