If you’re buying a whole watermelon instead of pre-sliced, there’s a chance you might find yourself with a few leftovers. So, consider doing something a little different with them by making a one-ingredient watermelon sorbet.

The recipe is very simple. However, it does require some frozen watermelon, so plan accordingly. Once the melon is frozen, the sorbet only takes minutes to make and can be enjoyed immediately.

Watermelon Sorbet

For this watermelon sorbet recipe, you need equal parts frozen watermelon and fresh watermelon, preferably cut into chunks or cubes.

An easy way to freeze watermelon is by placing the pieces on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and popping it in the freezer. If you're not planning to use the frozen fruit immediately, you can transfer it to a plastic bag and put it back in the freezer. Frozen watermelon will keep in your freezer for up to eight months.

To make one-ingredient watermelon sorbet:

  1. Add fresh watermelon to the bottom of a high-speed blender.

  2. Add the frozen watermelon on top.

  3. Start blending on the slowest setting then gradually increase the speed.

  4. Once blended, the mixture is ready to pour into a cup or bowl.

  5. If you like, garnish with fresh mint or Tajín for a little kick.

  6. Enjoy!

This recipe can also be a base for you to build on and customize your sorbet creations. Consider adding honey and lime juice or mixing in a medley of frozen fruits.
