Victoria Beckham is known for her love of elegant neutrals, which she almost exclusively wears, so when the fashion designer stepped out in New York on Wednesday (16 October), having swapped her subtle palette for something altogether bolder and brighter, we took note and applauded her.

The star was seen attending Vogue's Forces of Fashion event (she certainly fits that criteria) wearing a zingy lime green dress paired with chilli-red stilettos, delicate gold jewellery and oversized sunglasses.

The chic, minimalist dress from her own brand featured a low-cut neckline, slightly puffed sleeves and a flattering A-line skirt that fell beautifully over her frame. Her strappy heels, meanwhile, had a patent finish that contrasted with the fragility of the silk and made for a particularly eye-catching look.

Red and green, when styled right, should definitely be seen in our books. The key is to ensure that the tones of these colours are complementary – opposite each other on the colour wheel – so that they make each other pop rather than cause your eyes to hurt. Keep one colour dominant – say 70% of an outfit – so that the other serves as a playful accent and they aren't competing for attention.

If you're not feeling brave enough to try such a daring colour palette just yet, look to inject some lime green into your autumn wardrobe (try a bag or scarf), teamed with grounding, 'safer' neutrals like grey, cream and navy. It's an easy way to freshen up your regular outfit rotation for the new season.
