'Victim or doctor with a god complex?': Malpractice season 2 is the ITV medical thriller we can't wait for
After gripping the nation back in 2023, the thrilling medical drama Malpractice is coming back for a second series, packed with a new cast and a complex new case to chew over.
Based on series creator Grace Ofori-Attah’s experiences as a junior NHS doctor, the first season explored how a patient’s death led to a lawsuit debating whether or not the presiding doctor was at fault.
Hailed by critics and audiences as a refreshing take on the struggles of medical workers around the country, Malpractice has had people eagerly waiting for its return ever since its conclusion.
From cast to plotline, here’s all you need to know about Malpractice season 2.
Malpractice season 2: Plot
Similar to its first outing, Malpractice will centre around one doctor whose decision-making during patient care leads to a whirlwind of debate and discussion that threatens to derail his whole life.
This time, our central figure is Dr James Ford (Tom Hughes), a psychiatric registrar who finds himself caught between an anxious new mother’s postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a psychotic patient.
Things take a tragic turn, eventually leading to familiar faces Norma Callahan (Helen Behan) and George Adjei (Jordan Kouamé) of the Medical Investigation Unit coming in to determine Dr Ford’s involvement.
An official ITVX description reads: “His personal life is messy and his colleagues may find him arrogant, but Dr Ford appears committed to his vulnerable patients. Yet what appears to be a series of bad choices by one doctor spreads beyond the psychiatric unit to a hospital seemingly at war with itself.
“Is Dr Ford a doctor with a God complex, or a victim himself?”

What have the cast said so far?
Playing Dr James Ford, Tom Hughes is essential to this season’s storyline and has shared his anticipation for viewers engaging with the series once again.
