Who is Vick Hope? Everything to know about the new Countryfile host
If you love nothing more than settling in to watch Countryfile on a Sunday evening, there’s a new face joining the team – and she might already be familiar.
Broadcaster, journalist, and radio presenter Vick Hope is stepping into her wellies and heading into the countryside for the much-loved BBC show.
Here’s all you need to know about the new host...
Who is Vick Hope?
Vick Hope is best known for her work on television and radio. Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, she studied modern languages at Cambridge University, picking up French, Spanish, and Portuguese along the way. “I was so determined,” she told A-list. “I’d read about Cambridge University. My school didn’t do the subjects I needed and wanted to do, so I taught myself Spanish at adult education classes to do my A-level exams in a year.”
While spending a year abroad, she landed a job as a journalist – and that was the start of an impressive career in broadcasting. You might have heard her on BBC Radio 1, where she co-hosts Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie alongside Katie Thistleton and Jamie Laing. Before that, she was a familiar voice on Capital Breakfast.
Over the years, she’s also appeared on plenty of TV shows, from The X Factor and The Voice UK to presenting at the BAFTAs. She’s hosted her weekend morning show on ITV and even appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. She’s also the author of a children’s book and is married to well-known DJ and producer Calvin Harris, after the pair tied the knot in 2023.
What has Vick said about joining Countryfile?
Vick made her Countryfile debut earlier this month, exploring Kielder Forest in Northumberland – a place that means a lot to the presenter. Growing up in Newcastle, she explained she had fond memories of spending time there, so it was the perfect setting for her first outing.
“The opportunity to return and champion the area where I grew up means a lot,” she said. “I grew up not too far from Kielder Forest… and I remember orienteering there as a child; the opportunity to return and champion an area that has meant so much to me as my first assignment is an incredible full circle moment.”
Speaking about her new role, the presenter shared her excitement about delving into rural life, saying she was “delighted” to join the team.
“Spending time in nature has always been hugely important to me, so the chance to learn ever more about the world around us from such beautifully diverse perspectives and such a passionate mix of people who live and breathe country life across the UK is really special,” she shared on Instagram.
Who else is on the Countryfile team?
Since first hitting our screens in 1988, Countryfile has had a strong lineup of presenters sharing stories from across the British countryside. Long-time host John Craven is still a key part of the show, alongside familiar faces like Matt Baker, Helen Skelton, Adam Henson, and Anita Rani.
And if her first segment is anything to go by, she’s already making herself at home in the countryside.
