A veterinary nurse has revealed the five dog breeds she adores but would never own herself.

Jade, a registered vet nurse and pet mum to three dogs and three tortoises, shared her thoughts on TikTok in a video titled "5 dog breeds I LOVE but would never own!" She listed dalmatians, boxers, border collies, St. Bernard's and huskies as breeds she loves but wouldn't personally keep due to their high energy levels, maintenance needs or potential health issues.

Her video has since garnered 74,000 views, 2,920 likes and over 200 comments, with many curious about her choices. Responding to one user who asked why she wouldn't own these breeds, Jade explained: "Either too energetic, too high maintenance or have too many health ailments. But I love their personalities."

When another user questioned her stance on boxers, she responded that they are "just a bit too bouncy" for her and "often have health ailments." According to PDSA, the UK's leading veterinary charity dedicated to pets in need, boxers are "entertaining and active dogs who thrive off company".

The charity notes: "Originally Boxers were bred to be working dogs, which is why they have such high exercise needs and energy to spare! Now they're known for their kind and clownish natures which has made them popular family pets."

However, Jade highlighted that boxers are "prone" to certain health issues. Amongst the conditions listed by PDSA that can affect boxers are Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS), which leads to significant breathing problems in some boxers with shorter faces, hip dysplasia causing a mismatched hip joint that can develop into arthritis, epilepsy, which is a brain disorder bringing on seizures, and eye conditions.

Responding to a TikTok user inquiring "why not a dalmatian? " after viewing her video, Jade put forth: "They are mad as a box of frogs and have far too much energy for my lifestyle." Dalmatians are instantly recognisable due to their distinct white coats dappled with black spots, much like the characters in the iconic 1996 Disney film, One Hundred and One Dalmatians.

PDSA describes these pooches as "incredibly active and lively dogs" recommending them for households that lead an active life to ensure plenty of stimulation and exploration. Another TikTok user chimed into Jade's discussion saying: "I love Dalmatians but they are so crazy."

The comments section was filled with dog owners sharing stories about their own pets. One user gushed: "No, I love my Saint Bernard. He is so cute but he does slobber a lot."

Another user chimed in: "I have a black tri-colour Border Collie. My family are first time dog owners and got a Border Collie (wouldn't suggest as they're very hard work but we love him)."
