An official press release on May 21st detailed that 'despite a period of positive growth and sales, the upheaval in the wholesale market has had dramatic implications for the brand.'

The label's founder, Susie Cave, released another statement on Instagram: 'After ten years as The Creative Director of The Vampire's Wife, it is time to say goodbye.' She added that the announcement came with great sadness and expressed her gratitude for all those who have supported her.

The brand, which counts Rachel Weiss, Daisy Edgar Jones, Sandra Oh, Florence Welch, and Sienna Miller among its fans, has remained a cornerstone of London and the south east's design scene for years. Cave has been based out of both Brighton and Lewes, while holding keen fort in the Capital.

The label established itself as the go-to brand for occasionwear, with the Falconetti dress becoming a brand icon. A shimmering emerald variation was first worn by the then Duchess of Cambridge on a trip to Ireland in 2020 and later immortalised in her official portrait alongside the now Prince of Wales by Jaime Coreth in 2022.

The news comes after it was reported that The Vampire's Wife had been issued a winding-up petition by HMRC in 2023 regarding a debt build-up during the pandemic. The closure follows the news that luxury retailer Matches Fashion would also cease trading earlier in 2024.
