Urgent recall for popular beer sold at Tesco and Morrisons over 'glass fragments'

A safety alert has been issued for a popular bottle of Heineken UK branded beer that you can find at major supermarkets across the country.

The beer firm is recalling all of its its Newcastle Brown Ale's as they may cause injury when consumed. The recall notice explained that there has been "a small number of reports of the presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles."

An alert posted to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) explains that 550ml bottles with a best before date of November 30, 2025 have been affected. Batch codes affected are - L4321, L4322, L4323, L4324, L4325, L4326.

The beer was sold at the likes of Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's. So far no other bottles of beer or products sold by Heineken UK have been affected by the recall.

Customers who have purchased the bottles affected are being urged not to consume the beer, but instead to return it to the store it was bought from. A full refund will be provided with or without a receipt.

Retail stores that sell the beer will have point of sale notices displayed to explain why the product is being recalled and what customers should do if they have purchased it. Customers can also contact consumercare@heineken.co.uk for more information.

In other recall news, bakery firm Greggs had to recall its popular two pack of frozen steak bakes from Iceland last week. A packaging error led to the packs containing Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melts which contain sulphites.

As the ingredient is not listed on the packaging, it means they are unsuitable for anyone with an allergy/intolerance to sulphites. The recall affected 280g pack sizes with a best before date of May 19, 2025.

Farmfoods has also recalled its 50 Cocktail Sausage Rolls over the presence of milk which had also not been declared on the list of ingredients. A packaging error led to some packs containing cheese and onion rolls, making them unsuitable for anyone with a dairy allergy/intolerance.

The recall from Farmfoods affected products with a pack size of 700g and the L4295 batch code. The best before date of the products is October 2025.

Meanwhile, select M&S stores have had to recall Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and 2 Chicken Kyivs after they were found to contain salmonella. However, the recall only affects stores within Northern Ireland and nowhere else in the UK.
