These wide-leg jeans are as comfortable as pyjamas and now just £20
If you thought finding a comfy pair of jeans was impossible, you obviously haven't tried these affordable ones.
I have searched high and low for a pair of jeans that actually fit my hourglass shape and are comfortable enough to wear all day, especially when sitting down for long periods. It's a lot harder than it sounds. I've spent over £100 on a Levi pair that were swiftly returned for being too tight, and tried to keep things cheap with a £20 pair from ASOS. At both ends of the scale, nothing seemed to fit properly, look flattering or were comfortable to move around in.
That is, until I discovered the Uniqlo Wide Straight Leg Jeans. I recently met up with a friend and immediately noticed how nice her jeans were. To my surprise, they had all the hallmarks of a classic denim pair, but when I touched the fabric it felt like a linen cotton blend. She raved about how they felt like wearing pyjamas, so I ordered a pair then and there.
Available in: three colours | Sizes: 23inch - 32inch
These wide-leg jeans are made from a super soft, lightweight denim that isn't stiff, making them feel like linen trousers when you wear them.
Having owned them now for a month, and worn them almost daily since then, I can confirm they're the best pair of jeans I've every invested in. Best of all, they're currently on sale, reduced to just £19.90 - that's even cheaper than most M&S options.
🛍️ Product reviewed: Uniqlo Wide Straight Leg Jeans
⭐ Rating: 5/5
💸 Reasons to buy: They're supple and soft, thanks to a lightweight denim fabric that isn't stiff nor digs into my waist and legs
✋ Reasons to avoid: If you like a form-fitting jean style, these are not the pair for you
💰 Best deal we've found: They're currently on sale at Uniqlo, discounted from £39.90 to £19.90
Unlike other jeans I've wasted my money on before, I've been recommending them to everyone I know - they're just that good. Here's the lowdown on why they're worth every penny.
💸 Reasons to buy
Firstly, as someone who spent most of my early twenties squeezing into skinny jeans and ended up with red lines dotted across my waist from rivets by the end of the day, I've long been on the lookout for a pair of jeans that aren't painful and don't look outdated as I get older.
I've found that a wide-leg style suits me best with smart trousers, and this Uniqlo design fits beautifully. I'm a curvy size 12 and opted for my typical 28inch waist, but they're available in sizes ranging from 23 inches to 32 inches (and there's a handy size guide to help you get the perfect fit online).
Mine are the navy version, a dark denim that goes with everything, but you can also snap them up in pink and light blue. Previously, they were also available in an off-white color, but they're already sold out.
Somehow, Uniqlo has managed to create jeans that fit me around the waist and the top of my thighs, and just skim the tops of my shoes. There's no gaping fabric around the back, nor are the legs so baggy that they become unflattering. In fact, they've been designed with the side seams brought slightly forward, creating a super flattering silhouette.
I love that they're made from a lovely lightweight denim-style material (a blend of Lyocell and cotton), which maintains its shape but is still super flexible and flowy to wear, so there are no parts digging in.
In fact, they're so comfortable that I would fly long haul in them, and I'm almost always in joggers at the airport.
There are four deep pockets - two at the front and two at the back - each capable of easily fitting my large iPhone 13 snugly, which is perfect when I'm walking or getting on and off the tube. It's small features like this that make a big difference when it comes to the practicality and well-thought-out design.
✋ Reasons to avoid
If you like a more fitted style of jean, then this wide-leg pair is probably not for you, but I love them so much I've already ordered a second pair in light blue, too.
This is also a personal preference, but they have frayed hems on the bottom, which can become longer if you accidentally step on them, like I did. After wearing them once, I cut them off to prevent it from happening again.
My only gripe is they do need a bit of a quick iron after washing, as they can pick up some creasing with day-to-day movement.
💰 Best deal we've found
Right now, all colours of these Wide Straight Leg Jeans are reduced from their original price of £39.90 to just £19.90. For less than £20, they're an absolute steal and and I really don't think you'd regret this purchase.
