Unforgotten confirmed for a sixth series ITV

Unforgotten will be returning for a sixth series following overwhelming audience appreciation, ITV has confirmed.

The acclaimed cold case crime drama, which first aired in 2015, concluded tonight on ITV1 (Monday, 3rd April) and is currently the number 1 series on ITVX so far this year. The opening episode of series five is also the most watched programme on ITV this year.

Sinéad Keenan took over from Nicola Walker to make her anticipated debut as DCI Jess James alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar as DI Sunny Khan in the latest series. The drama began with the dynamic duo investigating the grisly discovery of human remains in a newly renovated property in Hammersmith.

Jess and Sunny had to determine how long the remains had been there and whether they could be linked to a murder dating back to the 1930s.

Tonight's final episode saw a second victim being linked to the case, with the team being confronted with the possibility of a double murder. The team had to decipher which of the suspects were telling the truth so justice could finally be served.

Series 6 will see Sanjeev and Sinéad reprising their roles as they aim to crack a new cold cases and unsolved crimes from the past, unravelling secrets and unearthing buried truths along the way.

Further casting for the new series will be announced at the time of production.

Each of the new six episodes will be written by show-runner Chris Lang, who is also known for his work on Innocent, The Hookup Plan, Dark Heart, A Mother’s Son and The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.
