While there are several single hues that have become the most buzzed-about colors of 2025 (looking at you, Mocha Mousse), there are also combinations of multiple colors that are taking the design world by storm. To find out which ones are going to make it big in the new year, Apartment Therapy surveyed 154 designers in The State of Home Design, where they weighed in on 2025’s biggest home trends.

Here are the color combinations they think you’ll see everywhere this year.

The Top Color Combos for 2025

Plum and Forest Green

For 2025, 44% of the designers polled said that plum and forest green will be the ruling color combo this year. With almost half of those surveyed opting for it, it’s almost a given that you’re going to be seeing this rich, luxurious combination around a lot more.

Terracotta and Camel

In second place, 27% of designers said terracotta and camel are the new “it” color combo. These earthy colors are easy to lean into, as shown in the photo above.

Red and Sky Blue

Next up, 16% of designers voted for the duo of red and sky blue as their favorite. While these are much bolder than the more subdued terracotta and camel, they’re great for fans of maximalism and primary colors.

White and Cream

And 5% of designers named white and cream as their favorite pairing — a neutral look that feels similar to terracotta and camel.

Yellow and Lavender

Not to be forgotten, 3% of designers love the combo of yellow and lavender. This light, airy combination is great for those who love pastels, and straddles the line between neutral and colorful.

Additionally, 5% of the participating designers listed “other” for color combos, saying that they believe a mix we didn’t offer as an option will prevail this year. For instance, Alicia Hassen of Brooklinteriors believes that deep plum and sage will be spotted quite a bit, which is pretty similar to the leading plum and forest green combo.

Are Neutrals on Their Way Out?

The consensus? Bold, earthy colors are in. As someone who writes about interior design and has for several years, I see the tide turning when it comes to trendy colors.

Neutrals have reigned supreme for a while (with white kitchens and white bathrooms galore), and while they’ll never really go out of style, people are looking for a change. They’re gravitating toward maximalism over minimalism and are opting for collected vintage items over mass-market finds. In this same spirit, bold, deep colors with personality are taking over, which is why hues like plum and forest green make so much sense.

It also doesn’t hurt that green and purple are both cool colors and are nearly across from one another on the color wheel, making them perfectly complementary.

And because color drenching is continuing to be huge in 2025, you can go for broke when it comes to these saturated shades. A room with painted plum walls and forest green accents? Sign me up. And I have a feeling I’m far from alone in being drawn to this color combination.
