This is the unexpected breakout Christmas trend of 2024
It's that time of year when we start thinking about how we'll be styling our home for Christmas, but a certain tree decoration trend is growing in popularity this year – and it's one that will instantly add a fun and whimsical touch to your scheme.
Felt decorations are growing in numbers thanks to their rustic and simple charm – and there's a brilliant selection on offer in shops this year.
"Felt decorations are certainly having a moment this festive season, as the perfect blend of traditional nostalgic decor reminiscent of magical, childhood Christmases," says Jane Reik, Buying Director at Joe Browns. "However, this year they’re appearing with a twist, woven into fun themes to create a talking point on the tree."
Whether you're looking to create a rustic look with your festive decor, or want to have a bit of fun as you welcome family and friends into your home, there are lots of great felt Christmas decorations to choose from.
With something for every budget and style, we've picked out some of our favourites below from retailers such as John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Next.
Why are felt Christmas decorations trending?
According to Sam Tamlyn, Interior Expert and Managing Director of Shutterly Fabulous, "felt Christmas decorations are all the hype this Christmas because of their handmade appeal and eco-friendly nature.
"Thanks to their cosy, nostalgic feel and the rise of DIY culture and handmade gifts, felt ornaments, garlands, and other decorations bring a soft, warm texture that contrasts beautifully with the shiny, extravagant elements usually associated with Christmas decorations."
So, if you've been looking to try something a bit different with your decorations this festive season, it could be the trend for you.
How to style felt Christmas decorations
Styling felt baubles can be slightly tricky if you're trying to fit with a certain theme or festive look, "however, rather than worrying about messing up your aesthetic, felt baubles are a great way to add personality and colour," suggests Tommy Kebbson, Founder of Kebbson & Co.
"Try adding felt baubles throughout your tree, intermingled with other baubles to add texture. Make sure to evenly spread them out rather than bunch them in one area to create a more dynamic," he reveals.
As well as using them on your Christmas tree, you can also hang them from garlands on bannisters and mantles to add a special touch and give them even more of a bespoke look.
The best thing is, these are the type of festive decorations that you will look forward to bringing out year after year, with them even becoming keepsakes amongst your family.
