The UK's most-hated item of clothing has been revealed and TBH, we get it
Summer is here, and with it thousands of Brits will flock to the nation’s beaches to partake in nervous paddling, ball games and unintentional sunburning.
And while the ladies pull on their most glamorous swimsuits and the men don their only favourite pair of trunks, there’s one offensive beach look we’ll undoubtedly be subjected to: the Speedo.
OUR EYES.
No, but seriously: the nation hates tight swimming trunks.
According to a new survey, Speedos, budgie smugglers, banana hammocks – whatever you want to call them – are the most-hated item of clothing in the UK.
The study by YouGov found that 74 per cent of women dislike tight trunks and only 13 per cent of the 3,277 people asked said they actually liked them.
Other items of clothing that the nation aren’t fans of include leather trousers, which came in second, and Crocs, which cam our as the third most-hated.
On the list followed:
4. Flares
5. Clothes with elbow patches
6. Tracksuits
7. Red trousers
8. Uggs
9. Deep v-neck t-shirts
10. Sweater vests
Matthew Smith of YouGov, said: “Our results show that some things really are better left to the imagination.
“No matter how ready men’s beach bodies are this summer, they might not make too many friends if they stride across the sand in a pair of Speedos.”
The preserve of Olympic swimmers, European bathers and slowly-crisping elderly men on the beach, tight swimming trunks are still mainstay on the beaches.
Call it our nation’s retiring demeanour, but us Brits have never been able to get on board with the unforgiving European favourite.
Saying that, we’re all for wearing whatever makes you feel good, so if you’re a steadfast Speedo lover, ignore the haters and whip them out.
