UK Eurovision Song Contest 2025 entry 'announced' by radio presenters

Girl group Remember Monday are set to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision, BBC Radio 1 presenters have claimed. Radio hosts Nat O’Leary and Vicky Hawkesworth appeared to announce that the pop-country trio, who previously performed on talent show The Voice, are the new UK entry on their Radio 1 show on Friday.

The BBC has not officially confirmed the girl group for the role yet, saying “any announcements regarding Eurovision will be made in due course”. On Friday’s edition of Group Chat With Nat And Vicky, the presenters said: “Now we have to talk a little about Eurovision because we’ve gone a different route this year.

“So this year they’re going for a country theme and country is having its moment, still, which I’m really glad to see, we saw Beyonce win album of the year at the Grammys for Cowboy Carter and now this girl band, which are called Remember Monday, are going to be representing us at Eurovision this year.

“So we’ve got Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steel, and they’ve already been on TV, they’ve been on The Voice in 2019, so they know what they’re doing, they’ve got us this year.” The girl group appeared on The Voice UK in 2019 where they were coached by US singer Jennifer Hudson.

They have released a number of tracks since the show, including their EP Crazy Anyway which came out last October. The process to choose the act and song that will represent the UK at Eurovision is a collaboration by the BBC and its production arm BBC Studios alongside music industry figures.

Sam Ryder’s manager David May, who oversaw the singer’s 2022 Eurovision success, is among those heading the search alongside Andrew Cartmell, the executive producer for BBC Studios North. It comes after disappointing results for the UK in 2023 and 2024, with Mae Muller and former Years And Years singer Olly Alexander finishing last and 18th respectively.

Following Muller’s performance, the BBC announced it was parting ways with TaP Music, which had selected her and Ryder, with Alexander’s place in the 2024 contest announced by the corporation during the grand final of Strictly Come Dancing. The 2025 song contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland, this year after the 2024 Swiss entrant Nemo won the competition in Malmo, Sweden.

The organisers of Eurovision pledged in December that a new code of conduct along with a raft of new measures will help “protect” the wellbeing of artists following a number of controversies during last year’s competition. The grand final saw pro-Palestinian protesters outside the arena amid the war in the Middle East, as well as accusations made by acts of threats towards them.

The controversy led the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to appoint an independent expert to review the contest. The act and song representing the UK will be publicly announced by the BBC before the EBU’s deadline in March 2025, the BBC has said.
