Tyra Banks may be a world-famous supermodel, but when all’s said and done she’s a woman with the same struggles as the rest of us.

The “America’s Top Model” host has spoken out about the “traumatic” rounds of IVF she’s been undergoing, in her journey to become a mum. Revealing that she put off starting a family in order to progress her career, she’s now struggling to conceive.

Banks, who has been with her boyfriend Erik Asla for two years, admits that she’s found it “difficult” trying to conceive and has been having rounds of fertility treatment.

“When I turned 40, the one thing I was not happy about is that I did not have kids,” Banks told People. “I’m like, ‘Damn, the clock is ticking!’”
She admits that she’s put off getting pregnancy numerous times, because of her work commitments.

“Since I was 24, I used to say every year, ‘I will have kids in three years.’ I kept saying it over and over again, because my business is very entrepreneurial. I’m not for hire, so I have to do everything. I kept trying to find that time for that to happen.

“When you’re like, ‘OK, I’m just going to do it,’ then it’s not so easy as you get older. I’ve had some not happy moments with that, very traumatic moments. It’s not something that can just happen.“

Banks has had an incredibly successful career to date and is arguably one of the most recognisable models in the world.

As well as tutoring aspiring models with her signature straight-talking advice, she’s created some eponymous fashion and beauty lines since graduating from Harvard Business School. She’s a go-getter in every sense of the word and refuses to let her fertility struggles dampen her spirits.

“I hope for kids,” she said. “I don’t just want one child. I want a litter! And I want to be the kind of mum where my child can come to me for anything.”
