This is the new character coming to Slow Horses
Whether you’re a Slow Horses fan like us or have never watched an episode, you’ve likely heard the hype surrounding the show. If you are new to the series, it's a darkly humorous BAFTA Award-winning espionage drama following a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents. They serve in an MI5 dumping ground department known unaffectionately as Slough House.
The show, starring Gary Oldman, has been a runaway success and we now know that Lenny Rush (star of Daisy May Cooper's Am I Being Unreasonable and Doctor Who) will be in the next series. However, exactly what his role will be is yet to be revealed, so we'll have to wait until we get more info on the new series before we find out.
In the meantime, here's everything we know about Slow Horses series 1-6 so far...
What is Slow Horses about?
We've already waxed lyrical on why we love Slow Horses over here, but for the uninitiated, the series is based on the hit series of books by Mick Herron. It follows the misfit team at Slough House, the 'dumping ground department' of MI5 - in other words, where the spies who made career-ending mistakes wind up.
Unaffectionately nicknamed the 'slow horses', the team, which includes River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), Louisa Guy (Rosalind Eleazar), Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) and others, is led by the notorious sloven, Jackson Lamb, brilliantly played by Academy Award winner Gary Oldman. Regularly going toe-to-toe with Jackson is MI5’s deputy director general, Diana Taverner, whose withering looks are portrayed excellently by Kristen Scott Thomas.
Is Slow Horses good?
Slow Horses has been a runaway success - it's already scored a Best Drama nomination at the Emmys, and boasts an overall 98% critic score and 90% audience score across its four seasons.
Slow Horses cast
Jackson Lamb – played fantastically by Gary Oldman – is a veteran agent and head of Slough House. Secretly, he’d do anything for his team (not that he’d ever tell them that).
“People are sent to Slough House for one of two reasons,” says Jackson. “One, they’re an absolute loser, and two, they’ve unwittingly pissed someone off.”
MI5’s deputy director general, Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) may have spent the last three series babysitting Jackson Lamb, but now it seems she has another man-child putting her nose out of joint in the shape of MI5’s new Director General, Claude Whelan (James Callis).
We’ve loved seeing Diana and Jackson’s relationship play out thus far – with Diana making zero exceptions for Jackson’s disgusting behaviour – so it will be interesting to see how she handles Claude, who’s clearly out of his depth in his new role as First Desk at The Park.
There's also MI5 agents River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) and Louisa Guy (Rosalind Eleazar) as well as senior MI5 officer David Cartwright (Jonathan Pryce). And, while we don't know what his role will be in series 5, Am I Reasonable's Lenny Rush will be in the show.

Slow Horse season 5 release date
Having been renewed for a fifth series back in January (just two months after series 3 streamed on Apple TV+), it's been reported that series 5 has already finished filming. Combine that with the fact that each series of Slow Horses has been released less than year after the previous one, we shouldn't have too long to wait for the next couple of instalments of Slough House antics.
Variety reported that season 6 will consist of six episodes, just as all other seasons have, and will "sees the misfits on the run as they find themselves embroiled in a high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge thanks to frenemy Taverner."
"Audiences around the world have fallen in love with the Slow Horses, and I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading this star-studded cast on another acerbic and action-packed adventure," says Jay Hunt, creative director for Apple TV+ in Europe.
Will there be a Slow Horse season 6
While series 4 only culminated towards the end of last year, Slow Horses, one of Apple TV+'s most popular shows, has finished filming series five and has already been renewed for its sixth series.
