If you’ve ever tried cleaning your beauty blenders with washing up liquid, lemon juice and all sorts of other fluids in an attempt to get them squeaky clean, give it up.

According to one Twitter user, all you need to use to get yours like new again is water, soap and a microwave.

It all began when #Yazz2UCL posted a video of her cleaning her blenders using these items, writing: “LADIES I PUT MY BEAUTY BLENDERS IN THE MIRCOWAVE (sic) FOR 1 MINUTE AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED.”

The first picture in the video shows some super-dirty blenders coated in glitter.

But, once one (which looks completely brown) is put in the microwave, it comes out clean. You can even tell its original colour: pink.

She also added a tip in another tweet: “If u want it to dry, put it back without any liquid.”

And the simple instructions were clearly a hit with other users, as the Tweet has already received more than 50,000 likes and 7,000 retweets.

It’s also received plenty of grateful responses, with one person responding: “Just did this with my real techniques blender and IT WORKS!!!! Thanks sis!!!”

A number of people also uploaded videos of them doing it too, with obvious results.

One person to post a clip wrote: “This was after microwaving them for 1 min, wringing out the dirty water, microwaving it again in the same water for 1 min, then drying them. Even the pointed shape of my beauty blender is back.”

Others, however, weren’t so keen on the technique, and claimed that it ruined their blenders.

One wrote: “did i do something wrong cause mine melted and is steaming and now i don’t have anything to put my foundation on with smh (shake my head).”

Another posted a video of their ruined blender, saying “yeah that did NOT work for me”.

So to be completely clear, if you want to use this technique, do the following:

  1. Put your beauty blender and enough soapy water to cover it into a microwaveable container.

2. Microwave it for one minute.

3. Take it out of the soapy water, and microwave it for a further minute to dry it.

4. Let it cool.

Will you take the leap?
