Crochet is having a big moment in the fashion world right now and this crochet summer top pattern is the perfect on-trend make to add to your wardrobe.

The loose-fit top features a stylish crew neck, short sleeves and a cute double-colour scalloped trim in a summery yellow and teal colour combination.

It's a classic item that will look great worn with denim shorts or jeans for a relaxed trip to the beach – or tuck into a midi or maxi skirt for a dressier look. A must for a holiday wardrobe, it'll look great layered over a summer dress or swimsuit.

What you need

● 3 (4:5:5:6) 100g balls Prima DK Acrylic Wool in Multi-Coloured Speckled (A); 1 x 100g ball each in Teal (B) and Sun Yellow (C)
● 4mm crochet hook
● 4 stitch markers

Tension

17 sts and 10 rows to 10cm square over treble crochet using a 4mm hook.

Summer top free crochet pattern

Front/back (both the same)

Using 4mm crochet hook and B, ch105(113:121:129:137), turn.
Row 1 (RS): Working into 2nd ch from hook, dc to end, turn. 104(112:120:128:136) sts.

Row 2 (WS): Using C, ch1, dcflo to end, turn. Break off C.
Row 3: Using B, ch1, dcblo to end, turn. Break off B.

Row 4: Using A, ch3, trflo to end, turn. Row 5: Ch 3, tr to end, turn.
This row sets treble crochet and is worked throughout. Continue in treble crochet for a further 27 rows.

Place a marker at either end of last row to mark armholes.

Continue in treble crochet for a further 14(16:18:20:22) rows.

Left neck shaping

Next row (RS): Ch3, 38(41:44:47:50)tr, tr2tog, turn. 39(42:45:48:51) sts. Working on these 39(42:45:48:51) sts only, continue as follows:

Next row (WS): Ch3, tr2tog, tr to end, turn. 38(41:44:47:50) sts.
Next row: Ch3, tr to last 2 sts, tr2tog, turn. 37(40:43:46:49) sts.

Rep last 2 rows once more. 35(38:41:44:47) sts.
Next row (WS):
Ch3, tr2tog, tr to end, fasten off.

Right neck shaping

With WS of work facing, rejoin A to side edge.
Next row (WS):
Ch3, tr2tog, 38(41:44:47:50)tr, turn. 39(42:45:48:51) sts.
Working on these 39(42:45:48:51) sts only, continue as follows:
Next row (RS):
Ch3, tr to last 2 sts, tr2tog, turn.38(41:44:47:50) sts.
Next row:
Ch3, tr2tog, tr to end, turn. 37(40:43:46:49) sts.
Rep last 2 rows once more. 35(38:41:44:47) sts.
Next row (RS):
Ch3, tr to last 2 sts, tr2tog. Fasten off.

Bottom edging

With RS facing, using 4mm hook, join C to the bottom side edge, working into the other side of the foundation chain row, and continue as follows:

Scallop row (RS): Ch3 (counts as tr), 1tr in same st, sl st in next st, [2tr in next st, sl st] to end of row. Fasten off.

Neckband edging

Join right shoulder seam. With RS facing, using 4mm hook and B, join yarn to top left edge of neckband, ch1, *12dc down neck shaping (2dc in each row), 24(26:28:30:32)dc across centre neck, 12dc up neck shaping, (2dc in each row)*. Rep from * to * for other side of neck, turn. 96(100:104:108:112) sts.
**Next row (WS):
Using C, ch1, dcflo to end, turn. Break off C.
Next row (RS):
Using B, ch1, dcblo to end, turn. Break off B.
Next row:
Using C, 3ch (counts as tr), 1tr in same st, sl st, [2tr in next st, sl st] to end. Fasten off**.

Armhole edging (both the same)

Join left shoulder seam.
With RS facing, using 4mm hook and B, join yarn to either armhole marker, ch1, 2dc in each row to opposite marker, turn. 80(88:96:104:112) sts.
Work as for neckband edging from ** to **.

Making up

Join side seams and armhole edgings. Weave in ends and block to given measurements.
