We tried the top burger restaurant in Leeds and loved it
As our stomachs growled at us when passing Hooyahs Burgers in Leeds, there was no better time to test its declaration of being 'The Best Burger' in the city.
On the outside the restaurant on Albion Street looked quite small because it is nestled in between a multi-storey car park and an alleyway but looks can be deceiving as it was like a TARDIS from Dr Who inside. All my worries drifted away as soon as we went inside and was immediately greeted by a server, who was very friendly and knowledgeable as she sat us down and explained the menu.
After taking a few minutes to look around at the unique but quite vibrant cool hangout, we ordered our drinks, a coke and an Old Mout Cider Cherries and Berries before looking at the menu to see what was on offer.

Since we arrived just before 3pm, we could have gone for the lunch deal which was either a Louisville Burger, a chicken burger or a vegan burger - however, it was too tempting to build my own burger. So, I chose to have a two four oz burger with a seedless brioche bun with American Cheese, bacon and lettuce. My mam on the other hand chose a sweet chilli chicken wrap with a side of fries to share between us.
As we ordered, I also spotted that at the top of the menu, it had a lot of awards such as Best Newcomer Finalist, Best Takeaway in Leeds - so my expectations were pretty high!
I thought that using a paper menu and ticking system to build my own burger was a good idea as they was no way it could be messed up as you tick everything you want in the burger with a black sharpie - however, they did manage to mess my order up up by not putting in the cheese.
This was quickly rectified by the waitress who was able to sort it out straightaway and I am pleased to report nothing else was wrong, so I tucked-in immediately. The two beef patties were perfectly seasoned, juicy, tender and cooked to perfection and complimented by the fresh lettuce and melted/gooey cheese.
The patties, which were cooked medium-well done, were so big that the bun did not cover it, which made it a little hard to hold, however, since the juicy burgers were cooked to perfection, it was easy to cut it with my knife and fork into smaller sections so I could eat it a little easier.
I was worried when reading on the menu it was two patties and hoped that I would be able to eat it all - but I really should not have worried at all as it was the perfect size that filled me up for the rest of the afternoon.
Also enjoying her food, my mam found that her wrap was incredibly juicy and tender with just amount of sweet-chili sauce. However, we disagree on the chips as I thought they needed a little more cooking as it tasted slightly underdone and the colour looked a little pale, but she thought it was just right. So, I think I just have to agree to disagree on this case.
With our plates now empty, we asked for the bill which came in a treasure box with two sweets - a drum stick and lovehearts- were they trying to sweeten us up? There was no need as everything was perfect except the chips, to one of us, and the cost of it all only came to just under £30 which was amazingly cheap!
No wonder why it is Leeds best burger just two years after opening!
