We Tried the New Starbucks Spring Drinks. Here's Our Honest Review
With each new season comes a fresh menu item (or two, or three) at Starbucks. Finally the time has come to usher in spring, which means Starbucks saying goodbye to the winter menu and pistachio once again. Thankfully we have a solid duo to look forward to this Spring, which will make it's way to the menu on March 7!
Starbucks must have finally heard my pleas, because lavender has finally made itss way to the menu! For a limited time, Starbucks customers can order an Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha or a Lavender-Oatmilk Latte hot or iced (or go off-menu and add lavender to a Frappuccino or your go-to Starbucks drink).
"Lavender is the perfect flavor to transition us from the winter season into spring," Starbucks beverage developer, Patrick Penny said. "Its soft sweetness, light floral notes and beautiful color ignite feelings of rejuvenation and awakening associated with the change of season."
The Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha pairs Starbucks classic matcha with a lavender cold foam, creating a stunning color and flavor combination. "It reminds me of matcha ice cream in drink form with a subtle lavender kick," explained Country Living editor Terri.
"I think I’ve met my new fave matcha! I’m a fan of Starbucks matcha and was nervous that adding lavender might make it too ~earthy~ for my liking. Boy, was I wrong! This matcha is smooth and creamy, a little sweet, and the touch of lavender makes it super refreshing! The flavor notes are subtle which complimented the original taste of the drink perfectly," editor Anna added.
The Lavender-Oatmilk Latte is the perfect combination of blonde espresso and oatmilk with a hint of lavender. "We aimed to create a really balanced, delicious beverage," Penny said. "The oat milk and the Blonde Espresso make a lovely pairing, providing a smooth, well-rounded profile that is complimented by the floral and vanilla flavors of lavender."
Country Living editors tested the lavender latter, both hot and iced, and we agreed that the flavor wasn't too overpowering or perfume-y, making for a refreshing Spring treat.
"I have a hard time drinking coffee nowadays because I mainly drink chai and the flavor of coffee is too strong, but I didn’t feel that way about the lavender latte. It was rich and creamy, and I didn’t get a lot of the bitter taste of coffee come through. Strong brew lovers probably wouldn’t love it though!" Country Living editor Hannah concluded.
We also tested the lavender powder inside a cream-based Frappuccino, which resulted in a lovely purple-colored drink. "This makes a really refreshing spring dessert and the color is so pretty. I think this drink does the best job of showcasing the lavender flavor, but it is still not overpowering," Terri said.
These new lavender infused drinks are a must-try at Starbucks this Spring. They're only around for a limited time, so go get your lavender fix while you can!
