Last month, transgender model Munroe Bergdorf made history by being the first trans woman to front a L’Oreal UK campaign.

Her dreams were quickly crushed after L’Oreal took a disliking to the passionate statement she made about racism. Despite the campaign being about diversity, the beauty brand stated that the model’s views were “at odd with their values”, sacking her from the campaign.

However, things didn’t go in L’Oreal’s favour with Bergdorf being invited onto multiple TV shows and causing the likes of fellow L’Oreal campaign member, Clara Amfo, to quit.

Since then, Bergdorf has continued to speak out, gaining tons of supporters.

Now, she has finally got what she wished for: a campaign that truly celebrates diversity. The trans model is one of the new faces of Illamasqua.

Excited to announce that I’m one of the faces of the next @illamasqua campaign. #illamafia

The upcoming campaign will also feature the likes of model Rain Dove and will centre on celebrating gender fluidity.

Illamasqua were just one of the brands who spoke out in favour of Bergdorf after the L’Oreal saga. Their statement read: “As a longstanding Illamasqua collaborator, we are angered to hear that Munroe Bergdorf has been dropped from the L’Oreal True Match Campaign,’ the brand wrote on their Twitter.”

“Illamasqua is a brand that stands proudly and unashamedly for diversity and equality.
‘We don’t stand or accept any form of racism, but we also believe Munroe’s comments have been edited out of context by a certain media title (who we won’t bother naming) without telling a true story.”

“In order for our generation to move forward and create a more inclusive society, it’s not just about showing diversity. We must all be free to talk about social issues in a constructive and tolerant way.”

Hear hear.
