The new series of The Traitors got off to a brutal start as three game players were axed before they even got to the castle, and a fourth was sent home when they were ‘murdered’ on the first night.

Once everyone was settled in at the gorgeous Scottish castle location, host Claudia Winkleman and her team picked out three traitors, whose objective is to eliminate the other players while remaining undiscovered so they can win the grand prize. Retired opera singer Linda, call centre manager Minah and financial investigator Armani were selected to wear the dark cloaks and plot their fellow players’ demise, and they chose communications scientist Yin as their first victim.

Following her exit, Yin, 34, revealed the problem she had that she believed led to her being selected by the traitors so early on – she had been getting to know all of them. “I think it was unfortunate that the people I was closest to in those first few hours happened to be chosen as traitors. Had other people been chosen, I honestly think I’d have been absolutely fine,” she said.

During their deliberations, Armani had selected Yin because she believed she “was very intellectual,” and could become “a threat later on.”

Yin admits that she is “still half in denial” that she left so early on in the series, which was filmed earlier this year. “It’s a lot sooner than I expected but I did know for a fact that if I was chosen as a faithful, which is more likely given the odds, that this was a very real possibility, so I did mentally and emotionally prepare myself for the worst possible outcome of leaving first.”

She also believes that coming across as “observant” and an “intellectual person” could also have led to her downfall. “I was debating putting on a bit of a persona, speaking a bit differently, using different vocabulary and syntax to hide the intellectual side of myself, but I chose not to do that,” she said.

“Even though I know for a fact that would have helped me out, even now I still wouldn’t do it.

“There’s a certain level of integrity to myself I would like to keep, and I wanted to project a certain Yin. That Yin is whimsical, but that Yin is also articulate, and I would have felt like I was not doing myself a service if I had tried to change my vocabulary to come across as less eloquent.”
